$5 more for national calling plan?

laoli
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Was told by the sales who signed up me today. Public Mobile will change calling area from national to Provisional only next week.  For $25, you need pay $5 extra in order to call Quebec (from Ontario) , or vice versa.

Will this affect old customer (such as myself) $25 plan? Anybody heard of this price increase?

I heard this mentioned in the thread.

"Public offer LTO $5 off (limited time offer) temporarily for all $25 and up plans."

So what's going on here in summary ? Only the 15$ plan is getting province wide calling and the higher ones are getting a 5$ price DECREASE ?

I cant understand this thread.

Yeah, i kinda wondered about that bit too.  Perhaps for a limited period customers will get an option to purchase these newly priced plans (provincial calling only) for $5 cheaper to mollify the customers for taking away Canada wide calling?

Edit:  @BearFBI  you edited, sorry I'm still not understanding?

Edit: I understand it now. Took a while.

Nope, @BearFBI - got similar response.

The suggestion I received was "only the marketing team knows when they will change the plans"

Which, again, begs the question how would at least 2 separate merchants who are likely partner stores, not PM stores, have this kind of advanced knowledge?

Stay tuned everyone!!!

Going from Canada Wide to Provincal calling would be a terrible move. PM's plans are bad already. Why make them worse

@BearFBI    Haven't read all this thread, but yeah absolutely agree, if true, this is a terrible and backwards move for PM and for other carriers to take.  I don't understand the logic behind that kind of move, other than, of course, having customers pay more.

Seriously disappointing, if this turns out be true!!

Has anyone tried live chatting with a retail rep on PM's site ?

Edit: just did. Rep said

"I don't have this kind of information, unfortunately"

You can try for yourself. Mabey another rep will spill the beans.

I probably need to get out more......but I am finding this thread to be like a movie mystery with part 2 being released tomorrow.

Completely understandable, @computergeek541    I kind of wondered how far in advance of things the Oracles got notified of things, and it's good PM at least does that for you folks.

As for the possibility that at least two merchants have already spilled the beans to two separate Public Mobile customers - that is very interesting.

Since the screnshot was posted about the Oracle program, Oracles sometimes only know about stuff a few hours ahead of time.  As for asking moderators or Public Mobile staff, no one is going to risk losing their jobs over talking about any future changes that they have heard about or that they think that are coming.

@HALIMACS wrote:

Yes I knew they were apprised in advance as well,  @JK8 .  (You've got a good eye ...)

Which is why I found it especially interested in that at least one Oracle has already commented on this thread.

I find it interesting that London Drugs shared this information with you - was it posted publicly there?

I had asked the London Drugs rep if there would be any changes happening tomorrow with the PM plans and he mentioned Provincial vs Nationwide plans. He did not give me the specific details on pricing. The information was not publicly posted at the store.

LTO temporarily.., look like  PM is testing the water.. if it didn't go well, a LTO might become a permanent "feature" again

I always think PM has an edge for low usage plans that are  lower than $35, but if this $5 extra become reality .. i believe the subscribers number will got a hit hard.

Tomorrow will be Feb 16, it would be interesting to see if it is real in less than 24 hours.

honest, would be surprise PM makes such move.  Free National calling is so common these days and they are going back to only Provincial calling?

Seeing so many providers with different promotion, basically lower the rate or increasing data/talk time, PM would be asking for trouble if they are doing this..

The Oracles would most likely have to wait for the official announcement before commenting further.

It doesn't impact me, @laoli , so I don't need to confirm anything.  My intention earlier was not to be dismissive of your information, it is interesting to say the least.  (and good on you for apprising members on this Community in advance...)

Interesting that @JK8 found a similar source through London Drugs.

@JK , thanks for your verification. You are the first who take action to verify what I said.

Today is Ontario public holiday. Everywhere is closed. It's hard to call a merchant.

If you are not in Ontario, go to public mobile website ,  find a retailer in your city , call and ask if PM will add $5 for new nationalwide calling plans.

As for asking retail sales staff, they would not be allowed to share anything that's not mentioned on the Public Mobile website.

@Anonymous  Ontario is holiday today.  If you are in other provinces, go ahead.

Again, I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe I should go to a store and see if they can show me their proof. An official memo from the company or something. Or someone could. Surely (don't call me Shirley) all official retailers would get the memo.

@laoli

Hi everyone, @laoli is correct. I just called my local London Drugs and the rep told me that effective Feb 16, calling is changing from Nationwide to Provincial. It only affects new activations. I called some other stores and some did not know anything, so it could be hit or miss. We will know soon enough tomorrow, but if you call your local store now report back on your findings.

@laoli

Please post what merchant/location told you about this increase. (you need not mention person's names, etc)   It's not breaking any rules of the Community.  If anything, it'll allow Public Mobile to reactively contact them to discuss any possible misunderstandings.

What store?

Approx how old was the sales person? (Sales liar)

Were unconfirmed and he/she gave you a little push. (Push of BS).

I find that hard to believe that some one in the bottom of the pile would know that.

I say not true. That kind of change would be in strict confidence and would be a broadcast released to everyone at the SAME time.

@ShawnC13 ... Agree the rewards would be the only thing to retain EXISTING customers but without competitive plans, PM won't get any NEW subscribers which is what is going to keep the brand afloat.

As for Rewards... Yes, you have them now, but only because PM chooses so.  They could easily make changes to Auto Pay, Friend referrals, etc. making these carrots disappear.

Nothing is carved in stone when it comes to the incumbents and subscribers are getting used of changing when better deals come along.

But if those that are rewardless, fled to better deals PM wouldn’t survive with a high ratio of accounts that pay little to nothing. There must must only a percentage on low low side that find referrals while some are just satisfied with price, service, auto-pay reward and loyalty reward. So those referrals are low cost gains for PM.

Well we're approaching noon ET on this fabled Monday...crickets. When was this change supposed to happen?

Edit: after lunch?

@laoli

Well here's some irony.......exactly three years ago today the following thread was posted in reaction to the last price increase announced by public mobile and the resulting uproar that caused pm to rescind the increase.

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Using-Your-Service/40-4GB-Plan-getting-10-month-price...

Spoiler
Public Mobile, the online community-driven wireless carrier owned by Telus, announced yesterday that it had decided to increase the monthly rate on its $120/12GB 90-day promotional rate plan by $10 per month. The decision immediately caused an uproar since the promotional plan had been advertised as one that would not change in price as long as they remained an active customer. The announcement of the price increase came along with an offer for those customers to switch to Koodo Mobile. The carrier noted in a text to customers: “Our sister brand, Koodo, has a way for you to keep your $40 price point. Until March 15th, 2018, join Koodo and get 4GB of data, unlimited text and unlimited Canada-wide minutes for $40/month.” Customers were livid, voicing concern on all social media avenues and also reporting the issue to the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS). However, only a day later, Public Mobile stated in a blog post it will “not be moving forward with a price increase on the infamous ‘$40 for 4GB’ plan.” This means the rate plan for current customers is still active and so are the referral bonuses. “While all good things must come to an end at some point – that point is not today. As a brand, we have always been proud of our transparency, and of our commitment to our customers. We are sincerely sorry for any frustration caused and we want you to know that this has been a learning experience for us all,” said the note to customers from Dave MacLean, the general manager of Public Mobile. Those still interested in moving to Koodo can continue to take advantage of the deal for the $40 for 4GB plan.

What hold does this merchant have on you that you would be bound to a promise over information about a cellular carrier's plans to amend their offerings?

Perhaps if you know this merchant personally, it's quite understandable.

Otherwise, it seems suspect why you might not identify the retailer name to allow their information to be confirmed.

I honestly don't mind it. I have 1000 mins free gift that I can finally put to good use. it's a better solution than adding $5 to all plans

laoli
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

@HALIMACS , I do have screenshot he sent to me but I promised him not spread until Tuesday or Feb-16 when this news is released.

The only difference from what I said is: Public offer LTO $5 off (limited time offer) temporarily for all $25 and up plans.  $15 plan will be provincial calling effective immediately when it's announced.

I took other community member's advise and get $25 plan for my daughter. No matter how PM change in future, it won't affect her plan.

Wait 24 hours and we can see if he is lying, which I don't think so.
