3g warning messages

IanVanMierlo

for the past few months I have been receiving frequent calls from Telus telling me the 3g network is shutting down in Manitoba and I need to call

Now, I cant even dial out without having to listen to a 30 second recorded message telling me I have to call Telus.

I have a 4g plan.  How do I put a stop to this harassment?

 Attempts to call PM get you to a centre in the U.S, that will give you a number to call that is a U.S. centre that connects to an automatic service that only works in the U.S.

hi @travlinT

the service here is good and solid.  Support model works if you do it the proper way

there is no number to call.  So, you called the wrong place

I would suggest doing what I am going to do. CANCEL your service with this crap carrier. Calls and wasted time will get you no results. Telus says it isn't their problem, yet the calls come from them. Attempts to call PM get you to a centre in the U.S, that will give you a number to call that is a U.S. centre that connects to an automatic service that only works in the U.S.

So it wouldn't make any sense for me to keep my current old phone and switch my plan to Telus?

@TD92

Most carriers in Canada have already decommissioned 3G or about to decommission 3G so switching to another carrier wouldn’t make a difference.

There are a lot of my friends that have older devices that are not VoLTE compatible and they are looking for a newer phone.

Will PM continually be removing phones older than 4 years from its VoLTE whitelist? I have an older phone from 2019, and wondering if it is even worth it to upgrade to a 2023 phone for example, if they are just going to continually say old phones are no longer compatible. This answer will help make my decision of whether to upgrade my phone, or leave PM.

@IanVanMierlo

Is the VoLTE settings enabled?

Go to Settings - Connections - Mobile Network- VoLTE calls then enable.

hi @IanVanMierlo

a phone that has 5G and VoLTE still might not be able to use VoLTE on PM network.

Use the VoLTE checker here to confirm.  If it has a checkmark for VoLTE , then you are good.  if not, then you will need another phone

hi @IanVanMierlo

it is not an issue with your 4G plan or not, it is a device issue.  what phone do you have?

yes, 3G network is seeing it end in Manitoba.  People need a phone that is VoLTE compatible with PM network to get voice calls on 4G/LTE.  Your phone is older one and you need an upgrade.
