I have an iPad and only need data. I was wondering if I can get the one time 1GB add on without adding a plan. Is this possible?

Public Mobile used to offer a $30/1GB data-only plan ... but who in their right mind would pick that over the $25 plan also for 1GB, but also includes voice... okay maybe for full-speed LTE...

Only data plan seems not valuable in public mobile

Look beyond the cellular providers. In some areas you can get up to 100GB of 25Mbps/25Mbps data across WiFi/3G/4G for just $25/month. Or maybe up to 500GB of 25Mbps/25Mbps data for about $50/month.
I have an Xplornet subscription, I pay $19.95/month for 60GB 5Mbps/5Mbps of mobile data across LTE. "Home internet" which works at home, in my entire city of Chilliwack, in adjacent cities and across most of the Fraser Valley. Low-latency 5Mbps ain't the greatest but it's good enough for (my) mobile needs and compares well vs 3Mbps "3G" speeds at Public Mobile. And it's a whole lot cheaper.

@ute1978 you can always get the $25/1gb plan. then you'll have a backup phone number if you ever need it

I wish there was a plan like that, but we don’t. the Fido tablet option is the cheapest. I would visit a wirelesswave so they can compare tablet data options with other carriers, so you get the best deal.

As long as you are OK with the likelihood of overage charges if you go over your data with fido. With PM, you are safe from overages and data will just stop until you explicitly then purchase a data add-on in that case.

Thanks all for your input, haven't been online for a long, long time, so I thought there were some changes. It probably will be cheaper to try to get the Fido tablet plan.

The $25 plan would give you 1GB if you setup autopay.

...then get a $15 / 1GB data add-on. Kinda expensive when you havta also have the cheapest $15 regular plan as well.
Look through the plan menu and see if any of the regular plans with data would work for you, Not sure how much data you need.

As @hairbag1 posted above, the $15 plan, but with autopay $13. Depending on how much data you need, it may be cheaper to buy a plan.

$25 plan comes with 1 GB with autopay for $23.

What would be the cheapest combination? Is a calling plan mandatory?

There are no "data only" offering yet. Cheapest regular plan is $15...includes calling / tetxt and a small amount of data but you can get data add-ons.

No, you must have a plan to accompany any add ons.
