Yeah - my point was that the little ad in My Account doesn't specify that, and I'm guessing a lot of people won't click through to the Community, look for this thread, and successfully find this thread, and then see that it's online only. They'll just look at the ad, go "great!" and not know that the promo doesn't apply in store.

@naliya7 I think search through Facebook groups for a deal might be a little outside your wheelhouse so to speak.

Really the simplist thing to do is buy in the market where someone can help you in person. Public Mobile simply does not sell any phones. You need to buy outright. Try best buy and ask for a unlocked flip phone you can use with Public Mobile. They can help you find a phone that you can buy outright completely. If you are internet savvy try searching Kijiji like I mentioned.

Best of luck.

Hey

Sorry, but this thread is about a $25 referral credit and how to get it, not about buying phones, which Public Mobile does not sell.

You said you were a long time PM client, so you must know they don't sell phones and that you would be on your own when it came to get a replacement.

If you want to start a new thread, that's fine, but not in this thread please

justinbeaudoin

@naliya7 you will need to buy a phone somewhere that's unlocked. If you want something cheap look around Kijiji for an Android device or a possible older generation iPhone.

Keep an eye on Facebook buy and sell pages for your area too.

You need to buy your own phone. This provider doesn't sell anything but the service.

@naliya7

Pioneer/Legacy plans are those plans that were offered before January 26, 2015, before PM moved to an online-only support model.  These plans are the only ones still with access to the legacy call centre, and are not eligible for rewards.

Hopefully this answers your question.

I found out too late about this $25 / $25 online activation offer.  I knew about the London Drugs/Walmart in-store promo.  I have 2 Rogers numbers I was planning to port over ($10 plan for both).  Went to LD to port 1 first.  Rep told me it doesn't apply to the $10 plan, only a plan that included talk, text and data.  Went ahead with the port and didn't have to pay for the SIM. At the end, the rep told me that I would have to register to create an online account once I put the SIM in my phone and receive a PIN via text.

Found out about the $25 / $25 offer this morning Smiley Sad Went to LD to pick up the 2nd SIM no activation.  Paid the $10.  Came home and did the online activation and self referral.  The only difference I noticed from activating in store vs online was that the online account was already set up when activating online.  I didn't need to wait for a PIN via text or anything.

 Cheers.

I noticed today on the My Account home page that the little ad for this promo doesn't mention anything about it being for online activations only:

"Sharing is caring!
From Aug 23-Sept 13, 2018 refer your friend to Public Mobile and both you and your friend will receive a one-time $25 account credit! See the Community for more details."

It says to check for details in the Community, which is where it'll specify it's online only - but I bet a lot of people don't bother to come to the community to read full details (or if they do, they struggle to find the info and give up).

I feel like a lot of people have come in here expecting the promo to apply to in-store activations - might help if that little My Account ad had "online" added, and/or actually hyperlink the word "Community" to this thread.

A couple things to check/consider:

1) Credits take up to 72 hours to appear in your account balance (though usually within 24 hours).

2) This promo is for online activations only. If you sign up in store, the new customer gets the regular referral reward of $10 credit and the referrer gets $1/30 days for as long as the new customer remains a customer.

Are you expecting the $25 as the new customer or as the referrer?

They just do that to show that they sold the sim for their inventory counts so they know when to replenish their SIM cards it does not  imply anything about activating

This is an AWESOME Deal, you can buy the Sim card from Walmart, aak the staff NOT TO ACTIVATE for you.  Same as previous friend referral, you aak your friend to login to publicmobile site to activate. Viola...

If anyone need a referral code, please send me a PM.  I will be so happy to share 😄

Hi

I activated this week and I got my full credits from referral and the $25 credits happening now too. It was a Walmart and he did it using his web service portal through Telus -- as I watched -- and everything went through as expected.

Took 2 days for the credit to show, though.

I too am confused how PM knows whether it is an instore vs online activation.

Yesterday, I went to London Drugs to buy a sim and activate at home. The guy wanted to do an online activation and I said no because of this $25+$25 offer. Anyway, the guy said that even if I activated there, I should still get the $25+$25 credit PLUS a free sim. He showed me his activation screen and it was basically a webpage. I checked the URL and it said activation.publicmobile.ca so I'm confused. I was really tempted to activate right then and there but I decided against it because I like following the rules. I ended up buying the sim and going home to activate. Strangely tho, even though I just bought the sim, he went and filled out one of those carbon copy paper receipts with a description of the sim and I had to sign it. I was wondering what was the purpose of a carbon copy paper receipt? Maybe this is how PM knows that it was activated instore because the receipt would have the sim and plan details and this gets sent to PM.

Yes, and in the same way, if your referral leaves just a couple days before your renewal, you'll lose the $3 reward even if they were there for 98% of your 90 day plan (or $1 for a 30 day plan).

Online, you both get $25 credit.

Clarification #2

Ok now I understand what happened

Friend went to Walmart to buy SIM

Walmart store tried to force him to activate in store

He fought them for quite some time (such a good freind)

Then finally they gave up and sold him SIM, he went home and activated it

That's how I got the $25 referral

PS Dufferin Mall Walmart is aggressively attempting to force activations in store @CS_Agent

@neeno

Of course, if you have friends that want to move to Public Mobile, they can put your phone number as the referral when activating their phone number.  You would get this promo (if activated online) and ongoing $1 per month credit as long as your friend stays with Public Mobile.  You can refer as many people as you can....

If I have been refrred by someone where both him and I benefitted as mentioned here.  Can I refer to someone else and enjoy the referral benefit.
