PM mods wanted the IMEI of the Telus SmartHub when I pulled the attached number out of it thereby cancelling that service.

If you look for something called MEID, you won't find one because MEID is no longer used anywhere in Canada. These were device identifiers for CDMA devices. This does mean that number porting has failed.
There are situations that IMEI is the recommended piece of information for number porting. This usually happens porting from Ztar Mobile.

Like @Spudster I'm surprised you are using the IMEI to initiate the port. Contact the moderators to reinitiate tne porting request and make sure the old providers sim card is in a working phone in order to respond YES to the porting authorization text. You could also call the telus porting department too...if you don't already have the number I can pm it to you.
To port a number in provide the following info:

When activating service with a new Wireless Service Provider, and porting a number from one provider to another, try to use the prior WSP's Account Number as an identifier as opposed to the IMEI number.
