I has this appear on the screen of my Samsung Rugby flip phone 2 weeks ago for half a day, then it went back to normal. Now the message is back, for several days, and indeed I can't use the phone. The SIM is a mini. Of course I can take it to a shop, but I'd rather sort it out if I can. I'm wondering if such a problem is more likely to be a result of the SIM, or perhaps the circuitry of the phone; after all, the phone has several years on it. (SIM is perhaps 3 years old.) Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for all the help. I broke down and bought a new SIM card and installed it, and that seems to have been the problem as it now works. $10. I should have done that long ago. On the plus side, I learned a few things.
Thanks again.🙂

I am a bit preoccupied at the moment so I will have to leave this file for at least one day & then work on all the suggestions. Thanks again. I'll return.
@razorboy if your phone is unlocked, a different network sim would still work
But SIM size matter, I believe yours is a Mini SIM. If your wife SIM is the standard size, bigger one and a 3-in-1 SIM like this:
you can carefully peel off the outer frame (and KEEP IT to put it back for your wife later) and test it
if your wife has a nano SIM (smaller one) , then you will have to find a SIM adapter but not sure if you can fine one

I should add that the phone is an A997 Rugby III.

HI @razorboy Yes, it could be a SIM itself or the device. Did you try your SIM on another phone? or did you try another SIM on your device? But since this issue comes on and off, you have to test it either way for couple days to confirm.
Let us know if it works

Hi @razorboy
reset SIM, take out SIM, re-inserting SIM and power on,
try toggling airplane mode off/on,
or Reset device

Check the sim slot and sim card for dirt or debris. Gently clean with Q-tip and dampened with a little rubbing alcohol. Does the sim card fit snugly in the sim slot as a little tape or a paper shim will help secure it if the sim card does not have a good connection.

Which model Rugby do you have?
Try reinserting the SIM ythe reboot the phone see if that works.
Also try putting the SIM in another phone to see if it works. If it does then it could be the phone.
You can bring it in a shop and get a free diagnostic.

I would suggest checking the status of your IMEI at www.devicecheck.ca.
Other troubleshoot is going to involve trying your SIM card in another phone to see if the issue is with your SIM card, the phone, the network, or your account.
