I did all this but it still says the number is invalid. after speaking with koodo they tell me my number is not available on the local network even though this number has been on PM previously. Also, in my area my husband and sons have public mobile accounts 2 of which I ported over from koodo a few months back. who is at fault here, PM or koodo?

Make sure that your phone is eSIM compatible before signing up for the free eSIM.
The drawback with eSIM is that they are not transferable between devices. Not like the SIM card where you can just pop it out and into another device.
You need to purchase an eSIM for the 2nd device if you need to transfer to another device.

@Stanmok28 , yes just make sure to use your account # from your other service provider of the phone number that you want to port in & leave their SIM Card in your phone so you can approve the port request from them by replying YES within 90 minutes of receiving their text message.
Edit: Also, make sure that your account with your previous provider is still active so the port will go through.

yes, you can. It doesn't matter what sim you choose to use, eSIM of physical sim both work
when you activate, after the payment step, it will ask you for the phone number. You can then choose to port from another provider. Make sure you provide PM the account number of your old carrier
and a reminder, please start the activation process using PM apps instead of using the browser
