One of the great perks of pm is having the ability to suspend our plan services when we can't use them or perhaps need them for up to 89/90 days at a time. A customer on the cheapest current in market plan the $15 w/autopay enabled can suspend their account for 89/90 days and pay and reactivate approximately 3 times a year (355 days or so) and only pay $39+tax to maintain their account and phone number.

When travelling local sim cards nearly always are a bargain compared to the price we pay for mobile services in Canada. There are also ways to workaround pm's limited roaming options so that you can recieve partial pm service if maintaining some access to your pm number is important. You may find the following helpful...

Spoiler

Options for your account and service....

  1. You can turn off autopay and allow the account to suspend at the of your current 30 day cycle but this is your least advantageous option. Pay and reactivate by day 85 or so.
  2. If you have an account balance that exceeds your plan amount then you need to suspend via the lost/stolen feature in your account before midnight eastern on the evening of your renewal. Then on day 85 or so resume your service to pay and reactivate.
  3. Suspending via lost/stolen before midnight eastern will keep your voicemail active allowing you retrieve voicemail and any verification sent by phone calls. However your rewards will not be applied to your account. CSA contact after paying and reactivating is necessary to have the rewards applied manually.
  4. Voicemail can be accessed by calling your pm number from a different phone by calling your phone # and pressing * once connected and entering your 4 digit voicemail pin #.
  5. If you don't have an account balance or enough balance to cover your plan amount you can suspend via lost/stolen after midnight but before 2 am eastern on the day of your renewal. Once your rewards have been applied (usually by 12:15 am et) then suspend your account. Voicemail access will be lost.
  6. Switching to the $15 plan with rewards helping to cover a partial or full amount of your plan allows you to call forward your pm number to your fongo number. Be sure to perform all call forwarding while in Canada. Now any incoming calling to your pm number will ring thru to your fongo number while on wifi or mobile data (w/a local or global sim card) You can access your fongo voicemail for all voicemail messages.

Most important mark on your calendar day 85 of your suspension and day 90. Do not forget when you must unsuspend your account via lost/stolen and/or pay and reactivate your service so you don't lose your phone number and account. Happy travels and Stay--Safe!

if your plan is higher price you can change your plan to $15 to save your number,
or another option you need remove your Autopay and when you come back to canada put it back your Autopay and pay every 85 days to save it,

@chch518 if you do not have enough funds in your Available Funds balance to auto renew and have Autopay enabled, make sure to disable Autopay. You can call 611 from your device to do so.

OR, you can list your phone into lost/stolen status, this will prevent your plan from renewing on your renewal date, even if you have Autopay enabled, and you will also not be able to use your services during this time (but you can check your voicemail).

...making sure of course to reactivate before the 90 days are up.

No cost to go into suspend status.

@chch518

You can suspend your account for a maximum of 90 days before it's closed for good.

@chch518    Your plan cost+tax?

Just remember you can pause it for a maximum of 90 days from suspension due to non-payment but are advised to top up and pay around day 86 and reactivate to keep your account/number from being lost, although that isn't applicable in your case as you said you'd like to pause it for just one month/cycle or so?
