Will 5g plan work on non 5g phone

Might be a silly question.  I have a phone that is only 4g.  I'm thinking of switching to a 5g plan.  Will it still work with my phone?  I understand that I won't get 5g speeds, but will it still work at 4g speeds?

I'm not sure about Google phones yet.  I am used to Samsung (and I used to be a Blackberry fan before that!).  I bought the Pixel 5a (rear fingerprint sensor) a couple of years ago and I couldn't get passed the mandatory Google search bar on the home page (clearly I don't like change).  So I traded it for an S21.  One of my friends has a Pixel (don't remember the model, maybe 6 or 7) and they are hoping to get the 8 on Black Friday.  If they do, I might ask them to borrow their old one to see if I can get used to it or not.

I am seriously saying this now: "I wish my old Nokia 6030 candy bar would still work on TMo, it has a battery life of almost a week of standby if not heavily used". This is probably the year the Nokia 6030 (2G) will finally not work on TMo (with TMo SIM of course). I'll really miss it. Remember T9 predictive texting? 🙂

@foreverkayla8 , if you are looking for a black Friday phone deal this one is pretty good.  This phone was released about a year ago and google will provide guaranteed software support to mid 2027.  Support will likely be longer as my pixel 4a is still getting support well past the guaranteed support date.

Thanks everyone...I have scheduled the plan change.  Might get a new phone on Black Friday.  I really love the rear fingerprint sensor on my phone though so it might be a tough sell.  I wish they still made them like that!

 Yes, you will get 4G speeds.

It will work and you will get speeds well over 100mps which is the cap on the 4G plan.
