Hi there,
Given the shut down of 3G/HSPA networking in the US, will our 4G plans work?
There's a 4G Plan available with PM right now, 65GB Canada & US for $34 on a 90 day sub... so that's why I'm asking.
Thank you

Thank you Phil 👍
I'd take that as enough evidence to assume my phone most likely won't work for voice down there. Yeah, would need to lean on to Voip. No biggie

@Chris_ The terms 4G and LTE are often used interchangeably but depending on the context they are not necessarily synonymous. I'm not technical enough to explain any further than that. I think the fact that it switches from LTE to 4G on calls likely means it is not enabled for VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and at least one US carrier that is a PM roaming partner does not list the A70 as VoLTE enabled there. In the event it doesn't work for voice calls you could use a voip app like Fongo or TextNow since data should still work.

That is one of my biggest issues with PM. I have a perfect phone that works on Public Mobile and is 4G LTE and VoLTE but Public Mobile won't allow it on their VoLTE list considering the phone came from their service partner in the USA, T-Mobile. But then again, when 3G is finally over, we'll see if Public Mobile changes their minds to open it up to more phones.

Thanks Phil. I tried that out:
Before calling- shows LTE
Starting a call and in a call - dropped immediately to 4G
After call - back to LTE
You think that's promising for my phone to work for voice calls in the US?

@Chris_ Samsung A70 is not on PM's VoLTE list so likely not to work for voice calls in the USA but data and texting should work. Some phones not on the VoLTE list do work, you can test to see if your phone gets VoLTE while in Canada by turning off wifi, turning on cellular data and making a phone call. If the phone stays on 4G/LTE you should be fine, if it drops to 3G while on the call you don't have VoLTE.

We're not in danger of them shutting down 4G networking anytime in next few years, are we? Lol
Not for some time. Still wondering though, what phone do you have?

@Chris_ Yes 4G is different and no worries about it going anywheres anytime soon

@Chris_ On the 90 day plan you have to pay $102 upfront with 195GB to use over 90 days . It’s attractive offer for sure and yes it will work in the U.S. best to have phone set to 4G/LTE while roaming in the U.S. anyways and not 5G for easier connectivity

Hey @Chris_
Of course. 100% will work. As long as you have a VoLTE approved phone that Public Mobile allows, you'll be just fine. HERE is the list. When I went to the US, I went into my network settings and turned off automatic and chose T-Mobile. Then I made sure data roaming was turned on then I rebooted my phone. From there everything worked perfectly. There were some times I used AT&T but very rarely. Which phone do you have?
