@popping I think you jumped the gun on this suggestion. The simplest explanation here is the one already made above, that the person just needs to dial the 1 and ignore the audible warning. It's better to triage the simple stuff first before jumping to the lost/stolen technique, which should really only be suggested if NO calling at all is possible, for example. Just an FYI.

@Yinshan: It's possible since you are in Ottawa your call is being routed through a Quebec tower. Since you have Canada Wide calling entering +1 before dialling the number will allow the call to go through and you will not be charged extra.

When calling outside your local area; one needs place place a "1" in front of the 10-digit phone number. It's LD because you are calling outside your local area; however, your plan will not add additional charges.
When using Telus network/cellular services, dialing the 1 has always been optional. They've never required it, although if you make a long distance call, you'll hear a reminder that there could be long distance charges. After listening to that message, the call will proceed as normal assuming, in this case, that your Public Mobile call includes calling to that destination (and also assuming no system glitches).

@Yinshan as @ShawnC13 and @Anonymous have said, you won't be charged extra; it's included in your plan. Please dial a '1' before the number and it should go through. Try it and let us know.

There may be provisioning issue with your plan.
If you account status is active, try the lost/stolen phone trick to re-provision your plan feature again.
1. Login to your self-serve account.
2. Report your phone lost/stolen using [Plan and Add-Ons] --> [Lost/Stolen Phone]
3. Logoff
4. Wait 5 minutes and login again
5. Report your phone found.
6. Re-start you phone to provision your account again. i.e. enable all features of you plan again.
If this trick failed to get thing working again, you should send a private message to moderator for help. But the wait is up to 48 hours. Good luck.

Are you dialing 1 in front of the 10 digit number as you will still be required to do that even with Canada wide calling

You can not be charged anything extra. If it would be a long distance call from a landline you will need to dial with a 1 in front of the number on your cellphone for the call to go through. But again don't worry you can't be charged additional LD charges

There are NO charges here. It's just a default recording. Add the 1 to the 10 digit phone number. Even if you get a "warning" ignore it. No charges.
