I upgraded to Samsung A17 earlier this month and still got charged the $5 3G fee. I checked my phone's IMEI and it's still not supported.

CS_Agent mentioned that the system needs at least 30 days to recognize your device so if you switched 15 days prior, you will most likely get charged $5. I upgraded my phone about 2 weeks ago and got charged. If you get charged, just reach out to CS_Agent to have the $5 credited to your account.

So in other words phone have to be switched BEFORE 30 days countdown. correct?
Ex.: 50 days before due date? If you switch 15 days before due date you WILL be charged, correct?

Hi @Dunkman
Yes I do have a NA version of Samsung A17 since I purchased it from Costco in Alberta.
I reached out to CS_Agent and they noted a caveat with the phone switching: If the phone was switched less than 30 days prior to the extra charge deadline, PM will not recognize the phone, thus, their IMEI lookup will show that it's not supported. CS_Agent confirmed that my A17 is indeed supported and credited me $5 in my account.

Did you get the North american version of the Samsung A17? Some international versions of phones are not on Public mobile VoLTE list.

Best to contact a CS_Agent to help you with your Samsung A17. It should be compatible.
