When people call locally they get a long distances message saying to put a 1 in front of my number. When they do they get a message saying it's not a long distances call. I tried changing my sim card, and my number, but both have not changed anything.

It is a mixture of landlines and cell phones if that helps???

I have an Oakville number and the caller also has an Oakville number. If they don't put the 1 they get the message that it's a long-distance call. So when they put the 1 and they get the message that it is not a long-distance call. I've rebooted my phone, I've changed the sim card, I've even changed my number. Nothing has helped.

not harm to dial 1 anyways especially in cases that calls not going through without

Also, Dialers on some phones will actually add the 1 for you automatically and it could be the reason why sometimes people seeing one phone works and not the other

Correct. With Bell: 905 for Mississauga is long distance for 905 Markham even though they are the 'same' area code.

Tend to disagree... EVERY local number I call is just area code+number. Never needed '1' in front of all that.

It's a local call and some people have no problem getting through and others get a message saying it's a long-distance call and add a 1. Then when they call back with added the 1 they get a message saying it's not a long-distance call and to not add the 1.

So...let's say you live in Vancouver.

And when people in Vancouver, that have a Vancouver area code, call you....they get a message that they need to dial a long distance number by doing prefix of 1.

That could mean that the area code you have is NOT part of the Vancouver area. Would that be correct?

Not everyone has Canada Wide calling and won't want to call and have a LD charge.

You could put out your number as +1 604 xxx 99xx.

All out of area code numbers in my contacts list are +1 so if I am in or out of the area code there will be no messages. But that won't help your callers that don't want to call LD.

No, that does work because then it tells you to not put the 1. I forgot to mention it picks and chooses who it does it too. Half the local people that call me have no trouble and then the other half it won't let the call through.
