Hi,

My question is when i buy a Samsung or iPhone here in Canada, will i still be able to use the same instrument in India - of course with a new SIM Card & Indian phone plan subscription?

Thank you!

hi @TamilSaint Samsung S and A series should work.  But even different providers could use different bands. You should check which provider you want to use and ask them for the bands they use and we can then really confirm

the GSM frequency bands in India are 900 megahertz and 1,800 megahertz. This means that for your phone to work in India, it must be compatible with these frequencies on a GSM network. (In North America, the common GSM frequencies are 850/1900 megahertz).

I believe that most people will consider GSM to refer to the 2G GSM network.  Phones advertised as having only GSM 850/1900MHz will not work.  This type of network isn't used anywhere in Canada, and it was recently phased out in the US.

I second that motion

android like a multi tool and iPhone like the right tool for the job @Chalupa_Batman

This is just my personal opinion but I'd go with an iPhone because they are just better phones period. LOL

i guess , that was my real question. GSM technology is used by both Public Mobile in Canada and AirTel in India but the bandwidth could be different and i may get stuck with a phone which cannot work in the other bandwidth!

@TamilSaint I imagine you would need to compare the bands used in Canada with the bands used in India.  There can be different versions of phones sold in different parts of the world.  So maybe check what bands the phone you're interested in using needs and see if those are available in India

In Canada, the main cellular network technology is GSM, while in India, both GSM and CDMA are used. Therefore, if the phone you buy in Canada is compatible with both GSM and CDMA, it will likely work in India.

Should yes any from the last 10 years

Hi @TamilSaint

It does depend on which iPhone or Samsung you purchase will work perfectly fine on Public Mobile. However, Public Mobile only works here in Canada or the United States. Public Mobile does not work over seas. The only real option is to purchase an overseas card for talk/text/data.

If you wanted to talk back to Canada for free, you can always download a VOIP program like TextNow with a local number and use WiFi down there.

but any samsung or iphone bought in Canada will work with an indian SIM connection?

@TamilSaint  That’s fine but you can’t use your PM sim in India ,you will need a local pre paid SIM card or travel eSIM for your trip
