My USA add on for calls and messaging is not working correctly. I can send messages but cannot receive them from family living in the USA. iMessage is turned off. Please help.

Yes, I had looked at that plan and agree that it’s a good deal, but I was waiting to switch as my current cycle just paid for 3 months and runs till August.
Again, lesson learned.

iMessages runs off data. Yes sure, you can always switch to SMS but I guess you're right. Lesson learned. Not sure what plan you have or how long you're in the US for or how often you go, but you may wish to change your plan over to the $34 Can/US plan. Not sure what you have now but that plan has great value!

hi @Finslippy
trust me , turn on iMessage when you have wifi and you will get those "lost messages " back as people were replying you back as iMessage
for those close family, ask them to change to send you as Text while you are in US. They just need to go back to those messages, press and hold and wait the menu to pop up and choose send as text

Changed the network to T Mobile. Can’t turn data roaming on as I did not purchase data. To add it now will cost way more. Lesson learned there. Just frustrated as I thought it would work, therefore didn’t need data.

I'm guessing you are calling/texting the US? Just because the plan let's you call/text them doesn't mean that they can call/text you unless there plan let's them. The add on let's you call them not them call you.
Never mind only Reed the first part. Thought you were calling from Canada

OK So if you only purchase the talk and text, then you need to follow what I said in the other post. If you're using iMessages, as you mentioned it's turned off, Go to Settings > Messages, and turn on Send as SMS. And then reboot.

Hey @Finslippy
I assume you are in the US right now? If so, go into your network settings and turn off automatic. Then pick T-Mobile as that seems to work best. Then make sure your data roaming is turned on. Then reboot the phone. This should in theory work.

No, I didn't buy roaming data. I am travelling and don’t always have access to wifi.

HI @Finslippy
you didn't buy roaming data?
if you don't have roaming data and just got roaming talk /text, your family in US likely still sending you iMessage as they are sending you via iMessage before, their phone would not know you turned off iMessage and hence their phone still default to reply back to you using iMessage
when you have wifi , turn on Wifi and turn on iMessage and you will get their reply
