I thought I was having a deja vu.....anyways read the post I wrote the day before you posted as it mostly applies although the mint mobile 90 day plans are a little more appealing if you are staying for 6 weeks.
Please note a couple posts following mine addresses some questions I had related to the decommissioning of the 3G network in the US so now more than ever using a local or global sim card for US travel is of the up most importance as pm voice calls will go by the wayside stateside.

You need to purchase USA roaming for 10 days slots. $15 for calling and texting and $20 for calling, texting and 250mb of data.
A local SIM like Tello will cost $10 usd for calling, texting and 1gb of data.
Or use WhatsApp through wifi using your PM number.

Hi @Pokey
for public mobile offer U.S. Roaming 10 day packages,
but there some important: As of February 22nd, 2022, some United States (U.S) carriers will begin turning down certain 3G/HSPA networks in the U.S. As a result, some customers using U.S. roaming add-ons may be impacted by differences in coverage or service quality (including 9-1-1 calls) when roaming in the U.S. This shutdown will not impact your service in Canada.
buy prepaid SIM, Amazon.ca:prepaid sim usa
or use that app Talkatone, Free canadian number, Talkatone:Texting & Calling – Apps on Google Play

@Pokey No monthly plan for US Roaming
You can check the different 10 days plan. But they are short and you need to renew. Renew is trouble (cannot renew the exact same add-on early, and you have to wait 24 hours after the 10 day expiry date before you can buy the exact same add-on) . These are the US 10 days add-on if you are interested:
Consider getting US local data prepaid plan. Cheaper and more data. Then use VoIP App to call back Canada. TextNow would be a good choice. Arrange it before you go and you can forward your calls to the VoIP number

You have the choice of either purchasing a US roaming add-on (they are only good for 10 days at a time) or you may want to consider purchasing a prepaid SIM card from either T-Mobile or AT&T while there.
Prices may be better with the latter option.
