US Data Add-On

I am visiting friends in Texas. I live in New Brunswick,  Canada. I purchased a 3G US roaming data add-on called talk and text. I am trying to call my mother. It won’t allow me. It tells me I need to have US roaming which I purchased. Help?

@Peregrina-15   The iPhone 11 has VoLTE, all iPhones from 8 and newer are approved by Public Mobile.  What carriers are you seeing as options, you should potentially see AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.  Which are you connecting to when data is working? What is your phone set to connect at , 3G or LTE?  If not LTE, set it to that and try again.

I think that would be all too complicated for this old lady. Thank you for the suggestion. I ended up calling my 91-year-old mother on video messenger and that worked. But that might’ve been because I was on my friends Wi-Fi?

Oh, I definitely purchased US roaming 3 GB of data with talk and text. I am 100% sure of that.

I guess it must be what you said, a VOLTE issue? The add-on  was 25 or 35 Canadian And I know that it was talk and text. I am absolutely sure of it and 3 GB of data.

The data and the texting work it’s the voice that is not working.

If you're getting a call recording that says you need to purchase roaming, that likely means it's not a VoLTE issue. If your phone wasn't VoLTE compatible, you'd just get dead air (the call wouldn't connect, no error message).

Which add-on did you purchase? How much was it? They don't all include phone calls.

@Peregrina-15  Is it just voice calls that don't work, what about data and texting?  Is there any chance you accidentally got just the US data roaming add on rather than the one with talk and text?

what model is your phone?

look like your phone is not a compatible with PM's VoLTE system. 

you can try connect to T-Mobile and try make calls on T-Mobile 2G network, but its 2G coverage is getting less and less now

it depends if your phone is VoLTE whitelisted with PM.  what model is your phone?

or a quick way to make calls is to use VoIP all and use Mobile data or Wifi to make the call. Download and setup TextNow from app store and you can make call using the app

Most likely your phone has to be VoLTE enable and compatible.
