You can switch at any time, but it's usually best to schedule the change to take effect at next renewal so that you don't lose our in the plan you've already prepaid for (and won't be refunded for).
Also just to note that in a few months when you're back the plans may be different then, so it's possible you won't be able to get your current plan back. Thankfully the plans have been getting really juicy lately, but just know that it's not guaranteed they'll have a plan that fits your needs & budget.

ULCW is likely a reference to unlimited Canada-wide calling.

I suspect you see that as the description on your payment history, right? It's just their weird description for the plan.
Turn on roaming data. Have networks on automatic. Set network mode to LTE.
Do you know if your phone is enabled for volte? If so then great. Seamless.
If not then do you know if you can switch your phone down to 2G GSM?
Talk is the problem for roaming. Without volte, the phone needs to be able to either automatically switch down to 2G or that you might have to do it manually.

@aavenger54 where do you see "ulcw" ?
Very easy and convenient to change plans around here. See how to change your plan here: https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ns/get-help/articles/change-your-plan

@aavenger54 PM plans all do not have no committement. So, you can change to any plan for one or two months and then change it to any other available plan at that time after

@aavenger54 So change to that 40GB $50 CAN/US plan and do so for next renewal and not immediately so you don’t lose money on your current 30 day cycle
