Trying to port out my number

Pocketmuffin0

I'm trying to port out my number to another carrier but the other carrier tells me that they're not able to do it, but public has the option to do so, according to the AI that tried giving me a broken link to public customer support several times (I suggest fixing that bot btw). If anyone can help me, I'd be very appreciative.

I'm aware of that, I was aware of that since yesterday when I tried it for myself, when I had given up on porting my number.

hi @Pocketmuffin0

yes, we have VoLTE since Spring.

But your phone is not VoLTE compatible here. Only major brands, phones sold for Canadian market, from last 2 or 3 years are compatible here

Your phone is non Canadian market phone and it won't work VOLTE here

I'm currently using a Realme 7 5G, but I went to get my sim card nearly 3 years ago from a kiosk at the mall. I wasn't aware PM had them, is that new?

hi @Pocketmuffin0

what phone you have? PM has VoLTE here, but only for compatible phones

I was planning on switching to Eastlink, but seeing as my phone apparently doesn't support VoLTE sim cards, it was a pointless endeavour to attempt porting my number in the first place.

and @Pocketmuffin0 which provider you are porting out to?

@Willlea i replied on your own post, could be the number itself cannot be ported to Rogers, but we need the first 6 digits of the number to check

@Pocketmuffin0 @Willlea  I can’t understand why you wouldn’t get the text , I’ve jumped around to many providers and the process  was always the same .sorry to hear you both had such issue with this not sure I can offer any more help then that

Already did

Willlea

that isn’t even answering my question. I have made a new post about it as well. The problem is the new provider don’t recognize my ACTIVE PM NUMBER. Therefore they can’t even begin processing the porting request so I don’t even get a text. Everything with PM is active already and I’m making calls with the PM number

Pocketmuffin0
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

That's all fine and dandy, if you even receive the text, but I wasn't even getting that far lmao

hi @Pocketmuffin0 yes, its cheaper here but support is different:(

Honestly, I don't hate that I'm getting money off my bill, but I do hate just about everything else.

hi @Willlea start a new post and let us know exactly what situation and we can advise.

@Willlea  You just need make sure your PM account is active and you have the account number go to nee provider request to port number , leaving PM sim in phone and reply YES to the confirmation text PM will send you to confirm the port , that’s it and after successfully porting out the PM number it will automatically close your PM account

Jesus Christ I hate it here

Nope, I ended up contacting public CS directly on multiple occasions, but even after telling them that the one I wanted to move to told me the error they were getting was telling them that my number didn't belong to public, public's CS told me it wasn't their fault lmao. In other words, they were blaming each other. But I'll be closing my post soon anyway because after giving up, I decided to stay with public, after finding out that sim I was trying to move to isn't compatible with my current phone.

Did you end up figuring this out? I’m in the exact same boat trying to port out

Pocketmuffin0
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Yup, on the phone with them now and they're public is saying my number doesn't even exist on their service lmao

@Pocketmuffin0

Yes contact Eastlink and mention that your number can be ported out and they should look into on their end.

Pocketmuffin0
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Just checked and I should have no trouble, so I think I was right, and I'll try tomorrow

@Pocketmuffin0

You might want to check if your number can be ported out at:

https://www.ooma.ca/check-portability/

I can’t see why it can’t but some number are not allowed to be ported.

Pocketmuffin0
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Yes it's in my name, but I'm thinking the reason I didn't get the text might be because my service had just been paid for? I think I'll try again tomorrow and see if I get a different result.

Is the PM number in your name?  I would contact Eastlink again and ask them why it can't be ported.  As others have said, it is up to the new carrier to request the port.  All PM does is send you a text for you to confirm YES once the new carrier has initiated.

Pocketmuffin0
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Yeah, I was told that by the AI as well, and someone helping me to port my number as well as the other person who replied to my post, and I haven't gotten a text message

@Pocketmuffin0

Keep the PM SIM in your phone and reply to the text with YES confirming you are port to Eastlink. You have 90 minutes to reply once you receive the text.

I made sure to pay public before attempting to switch, I was on the line with the other carrier, the customer service agent was who told me that it's not able to be ported, it might be because I just paid, I'm not sure, but it's Eastlink

HI @Pocketmuffin0

i don't think that is true.  Porting request always start from the new carrier side.  You just need to get your PM's account number, and make sure the account is active

of course, ask them if your number can be ported into that new carrier, not all numbers can

and which carrier you are going?

@Pocketmuffin0  Your PM account needs to be active then start the port with nee w carrier leaving the PM sim in phone to reply YES to the confirmation text to port
