For service in the Dominican Republic you will have to get a local sim card. Then you can use the following options for service with your pm sim card. If you also wish to use a text forwarding service then you must keep your pm sim card in a working phone that remains plugged in and on at all times in Canada.
Most important mark on your calendar day 85 of your suspension and day 90. Do not forget when you must unsuspend your account via lost/stolen and/or pay and reactivate your service so you don't lose your phone number and account. Happy travels!

@MelissaTerry - Public Mobile does not provide calling/texting/data services outside of North America.
So when you are in the Dominican, you will need to use a wifi app (fongo/textnow/whatsapp) or obtain a local SIM card.

@MelissaTerry PM does not offer roaming service in Dominican. (they only have roaming for USA)
So, you wouldn't be able to use your PM service there.
Best option is to buy a Prepaid Data SIM there and use VoIP app ,like TextNow , to make free calls back to Canada. When you setup those VoIP app, they will give you a Canadian number, your friends here can call you on that "new" number and your app will ring as long as you have Wifi or Data.
You can also set forwarding before your trip to have your PM number forwarded to that VoIP number so you won't miss any calls
