I want to know if I can switch to a 4G plan while I am here and then switch back to my 3G plan when I return to Canada un April. Or if I switch I have keep the new plan for always.

@Clooch

Currently you only have T-Mobile's 2G network for voice calls until they implement VoLTE calling which is hopefully sooner than later. You can also download a voip provider app like textnow or fongo that you can use on wifi or mobile data.

when you buy roaming you can use data on lTMobile 4G network.  but for voice.. ALL PM users will be using TMobiles 2G network, even you have PM 4G plans..but

.be aware that T-Mobile 2G network not very reliable... so voice might not work well.. (but data on 4g netork mostly ok)

so, just buy the roaming if you need.. no need to change plan..

To add to @softech 's post @Clooch you only need an active Public Mobile plan to be able to use the USA Roaming addons, so why not switch to the cheapest plan of the $15 one and buy the addons needed.

Note, though, if you are on a plan that is no longer offered and you switch your plan, you will not be able to get that plan back (unless PM offers it again in the future).

Or, suspend service up to 90 days so you don't need to pay for it (not over 90 days .. so you don't lose your account/number) and use a local SIM for services.

Review help articles for suspending or listing as lost/stolen to prevent being charged within a 90 day period.

Where are you in the US?

You can use the cell mapper link in the update to this thread to identify where your local 2G transmitting cell towers are located and whether you can possibly boost your signal.

Texting works fine. It's the talk. It is not reliable. Very hit and miss, depending where you are. So is there any way to make it work better or is that how it is with PM?

You need PM USA data, talk and text add on when you're in the USA whether your plan is 3G or 4G. PM talk add on is 3G, since US shut off 3G service so PM talk add on will very tricky, may not work.

@Clooch @You can switch plans when ever you want , you never have to stay on same plan after switching
