not a headphones or not, a data only tablet simply cannot do voice. Only selected tablets hav true phone capability ( i don't meant wifi calling, or using Facetime's "Calls from iPhone" as a workaround). Not sure which Tab A OP has, but these are couple as far as I know Tab A7 Lite 8.7 (Cellular) , Tab A7 10.4, Tab A 8 with S Pen, Tab A 10.1 (2019). But there could be other recent models

To clarify, I haven't tested this specific device, but at least on the HSPA device, voice call ability is dependent on the capabilities of the device instead of Public Mobile allowing it.

With the exception of VoLTE, it's not up to Public Mobile to support voice services on the device. Voice services also work over the HSPA network. Public Mobile does not restrict vocie services over the HSPA network based on device. On the HSPA network, any compatible device will work for voice.

@Gato1966 The quickest way to get a sim would be to go to a Telus/Koodo corporate store and buy one, or you can get one from Amazon. Ordering from Public Mobile can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks by regular mail. Once you have your sim card you would download the Public Mobile app from the Play Store (you might actually want to do that first to make sure you can download it) and then you can activate a plan of your choosing. Edited to add, Public Mobile only has cell phone plans and no data only plans but there are other providers that do cellular data plans only, I haven't looked at the comparative cost.

You can hotspot via wifi or Bluetooth on your Tab A but the password is on your A70 to connect.

@Gato1966 From a quick Google search it does look as though that tablet can take a sim card, but if you have a phone I would have thought that was easier for phone calls? You don't need a sim for wifi, but you would for cellular data when away from wifi, is that what you're thinking?

I don’t think PM will work on your tablet but one way to find out. Just pop the SIM out of your phone and pop it into the Tab A.
If it works, you can purchase a new SIM and get a separate plan.
Can you hotspot on the Tab A to your phone? If it does, this will be the better option.

You do not need SIM to use public or home WiFi.
You will have to research if your tablet can use data through SIM card and if it has a slot for SIM.
You will be paying for service - you have to open a PM account and if your tablet is not phone activated you will be using only data portion of your subscription.

@Gato1966 , if your tablet is able to accept a SIM card, then the method for signing up an account is straightforward just like with a regular phone.
