Setup sim pin lock

Hi

I just activated my sim card and everything worked fine to begin with. I got 2 texts saying my new pin was first an unknown 4digit number and then the pin I entered in the online setup. I wanted to set up my phone to always ask for my sim pin when turning it on, however when I was asked to enter it neither of the pins worked. Now my sim is locked and requires the puk.

I have read that I have to contact the moderator team for it which I've already done.

My question now is, how do the different pins work? What is the pin of my sim and what is the pin i set up online for? And what is up with the pin I got texted?

Thanks!

But these are different things if I don't misunderstand something here. If I add a Sim pin you need to enter it to use it even if someone takes out the Sim to use it in another phone. This way you are sure no one can access your sim even if they have physical access to the phone.

SIM PIN as a security feature is so yesterday.  This is why phones are coming out with biometric data unlock (face recognition and finger print scan) plus passwords.  Personally, I would not bother with SIM PIN.  Anyway, @Dunkman provided all the right answers.

Seems some people also like putting security on their SIM. Then maybe this is how it comes back to bite them.

Dunno.

As I said multiple times I wasnt immediatly asked for the PIN. I said it worked fine, until I wanted to setup the SIM so you have to enter its pin before being able to use it when you turn on your phone the next time. thats when i was asked for the current PIN of the sim, leading to me entering the wrong pin too often because I was led to believe it was one of the ones I got texted as there was no PIN on the packaging or the SIM itself. Now, of course I know the default PIN is apparently 1234 but I would expect that to be stated somewhere when you get the SIM card.

Well, now I have no other choice but to wait until I get my PUK and then I hopefully will be able to set up the SIM as I wanted to. Thanks for all your help.

According to other threads in the past,

The default PIN number for Public Mobile SIM cards is: 1234

Not sure why your phone will ask for that number.  Most people just put their activated SIM card into the phone and it starts working.  No request for PINs....

Usually, when you insert a new SIM card into a phone, it asks for PIN, it means the phone is locked to another carreir.  That is why I assumed your phone was locked....

Its a one plus two.

but if neither the PIN I got by text nor the one I set up online is the right one and there is none on the SIM card where do I get it from then?

Seems really weird to me

@Msjoq What is make/model of your phone? There have been some issues with Samsung.

I recently activated a temporary account, and received a text with a PIN. I just ignored it as it was not the one I had set up. I do not know why Public Mobile is sending that (unwanted) PIN.

The PIN I was asked is certainly not due to being locked to a previous carrier, since the phone is from germany and there are no locked phones over there. Additionally I was only asked for my PIN after I wanted to activate that Im asked for the SIM PIN everytime I turn on the phone. Before that, the SIM worked perfectly and I was able to use data and so on.

You said that the PIN for the SIM should come with the SIM, but there was no PIN on the SIM itself nor on the packaging.

Yes, the various different PINs can be confusing.  The PIN that you choose on activation of your account is your Public Mobile account PIN number, so for different account inquires to moderators, you will need that PIN number to confirm your account.

The Pin that was initially asked was likely that your phone was locked to the previous carrier and you needed to phone the carrier to unlock the phone (it should be a free service these days).

Here is the information on PUK code that you have asked the moderator:

PIN unlock key (PUK) is a SIM-specific code used to prevent unauthorised use of a SIM card.

The PIN (Personal Identification Number) enables secure access to the SIM card and network. It is provided with your SIM card.

  • If the PIN code is entered incorrectly 3 times, the phone is locked (except for emergency calls) and requires a PUK (Personal Unlock Key) to reactivate it.
  • Once the PUK is recovered and validated, you will be asked to choose a new PIN.

Caution! If the PUK is entered incorrectly up to ten times in a row, the SIM card becomes unusable.

It will take 2-3 days for moderator to respond.  If your phone is a Samsung phone, you can either phone Samsung directly to get PUK code.  Or online contact.
