Did you change the APN to sp.mb.com?

Which iPad do you have?

There are settings you might need to adjust in your Settings. If you happened to have this iPad connected to another cellular provider, chances are it's trying to use those settings.

Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Cellular Data Network and press Reset Settings. That might do the trick.  If not, there are several others on here that can specifically help you with the settings (I'm not one of them unfortunately Robot Very Happy)

Can you select the type of network connection?

Ok. I out the SIM card in. And it comes up in the corner of the screen saying 3G public

but if I try and search anything it says I do not have a data plan and not connected to network. So I checked to make sure that the unit was comparable and it’s says yes LTE so I assumed that was my problem. I’ve verified the iPad is unlocked. And that the cellular data is on. What am I missing

The 3G data will work fine on your iPad. All 3G is referring to is the actual speed. Also, note that Public Mobile's 3G connection is actually an LTE one that's been throttled down. You'll be getting the latency of the faster connection, but it might take a bit longer to stream videos, for example. There are others in here that know more about the speed differences, but to take advantage of the 4GB for $40 deal, I'd try the 3G before switching.

...and to answer your question, you'll need a moderator to make the switch for you. Let us know if you need some help with that (if you decide you really need the LTE data).
