Hi, does anyone know how I can retrieve a deleted sms message from a Huawei P20? I tried a couple of apps online and they were able to retrieve existing data but not "deleted" data. Thank you!

Are you using the default message app that came with the phone? If it's Google's Message app, you can try checking the “desktop version” to see if you can find the message there: https://messages.google.com/web/
If the text is really important, going to a recovery company would be the safest bet. The message may still be in the database file depending on when you deleted it, so best to stop using this phone for now. Turn it off and move your sim card to a backup phone in the meantime.
Chance of recovery decreases over time and amount of sms activity on the phone. (Sending/receiving more sms now can overwrite your deleted message).

Did you back up your phone to your PC at any point? Do you have some sort of package like Apple has that backs up your stuff to the cloud? Sorry, no longer an Android guy. Nor would I ever in my life buy anything Huawei. It's bad enough I have an iPhone. LOL

If it states 'This is permanent and can't be undone' than I'm led to believe Huawei doesn't have the feature to restore text messaged deleted within 30 days.
I'm sorry if I got your hopes up.

I have looked high and low all over the phone for a similar feature but the Huawei P20 does not seem to have it. When I delete a text message it says "This is permanent and can't be undone". I guess they really mean it.

Within the messages App, there should be a Recently Deleted or Archived section if you have the feature enabled and included with your phone.
I am using a Samsung however most androids include this 30day trash function.
