Re problem of scammers sending texts or calls

Spiritmale

Hi. I have noticed lately that I receive a lot of calls daily from scammers, telemarketers  or unknown numbers. My number is registered with the Do Not Call Registry with the Government.

It was my knowledge that the Telecommunications industry is aware of this problem and that changes were coming to weed out this unwanted contact.

My question is: Is Telus making any changes to its service to prevent this from happening? (Ie spoofing etc.).

Thank you.

Grant

If you have a smartphone you can get a app that blocks spam calls. Such as "Call-TM Check" many phones also have a feature that silences unknown callers.

Yeah good point sometimes they weed out calls they shouldn't and it's more of an issue then dealing with scumbag scam callers or telemarketers

Some texting and calling apps do have a bit of AI built in to screen spam.  The unfortunate thing is that the AI cannot be too aggressive and screen out legit items.  Also the spammers are always trying to stay ahead of any filters.  It is a bit of a whack a mole game unfortunately.  I have found that the do not call registry has turned into a white pages for spammers.

I found this link on the Net (there are many).  https://www.comparitech.com/identity-theft-protection/best-spam-call-blocker-iphone/
Perhaps there might be technological solution in the short term?

Spammers do not care for any 'do not call' list.

Most likely calls originate from overseas, driven by automated process so there is no way to stop or catch and prosecute them. And most likely there is no ground for prosecution as they do not harm anybody - if you reply on such calls it looks like it is treated as 'it is your fault, why did you reply...'.

@Spiritmale Hi all the telcos are working on the issue, will it go away soon? Not likely , the dirtbags that do this stuff are usually from out of country and not easy to catch unfortunately we all have to deal with it
