Re: plans

so I'm new to public mobile activated today. So far really awesome Network runs off of Telus. Very happy with my purchase but I have the $30 plan which is 20 gigs Canada and us. Does that mean that I can roam in the United States as well and use my device like I can in Canada?

Thank you! 👍 Good to know.

HI @Chris_

your A70 is a 4G/LTE phone.  In fact, if you have a 5G plan, you can get close to the 5G speed even with a 4G LTE phone

but of course, S22 has better network and would work better

But for speed, even the top speed on 4G plan , 100Mbps , would be more than enough for most regular users

Ah I see, yes... that's right, thanks. But getting a newer phone may also improve my data speed, especially a 5G phone... I'm assuming

HI @Chris_

yes, S22 has VoLTE and work very well too

I can't afford much, since we gotta pay up for the phones these days, and with PM even more so... What I may do is check out Mobil Klinik here to use that promo we have access to, for the S22. My budget to buy a phone would be like 250 max, preferably under 200

VoLTE only affects voice.  It makes no difference when it comes to data or text messaging services.

HI @Chris_

it would be better.   Afterall, A70 is a 4 or 5 years phone already

A35 is the entry level phone that has VoLTE  as well (someone confirmed)

Or if you want to get a better one, the S23FE , S24 would be a nice one to get

@Chris_  For voice yes even here at home in rural areas

Ah Phew 😂

thanks @Handy1

and @Chris_  yup, A70 not an the list

in fact A70 is not even a Canadian model.  but glad it has enough compatible bands to be used on PM

Samsung A70

HI @Chris_

but what phone do you have?

and yes, the VoIP app would be the workaround.  Fongo and TextNow are both good VoLTE apps to use

@Chris_  That would be wise if you want have the best roaming experience

Thanks, I think I'm coming round to understanding 😉

Samsung A70... Seems I'm gonna need to fork out some dough for one on the list when I travel down there

@Chris_  Unfortunately it has to be in the PM list , for example Samsung s20 is 5G phone you use it on Telus you get 5G network but here with public mobile you only get 4G/LTE because PM die not support that phone with 5G . So like voLTE with PM it needs to be on its whitelist to use the feature

HI @Chris_

what phone do you have?

for us with PM roaming in US, we must have one of the phone on the list to use VoLTE.  Sorry,

Chris_

So for roaming in the States, it doesn't have to be one of those on the list? For in the States, could it be ANY VoLTE phone?

@Chris_  Yes many more those are just the phones that public mobile supports

Chris_
Great Citizen / Super Citoyen

So there are more phones than just the ones on this list?

Wow, amazing... There must be more VoLTE phones on the market than listed in that PM list than, yeah? That's quite limited.... Seems weird to think all Americans have one of such a limited selection of phones...

Hi @Chris_

there are quiet many phones on the market with VoLTE

and iPhone is main stream in US

@Chris_  Most phones are voLTE capable just not all carriers support its use . This becomes issue when 3G is shut down like it mostly is in the U.S. and why its issue if your carrier doesn’t support your phone . Here in Canada we can still get away with 3G plan but it’s set to end soon in next couple years and 3G will be shut down here too forcing people onto 4G plans or start supporting more phones with voLtE

HI @Chris_

Yes, for US customers for US carrier, they all need VoLTE phones

For us roaming in US, because Canada still has 3G voice, we are caught in between

Chris_
Great Citizen / Super Citoyen

So do all customers in the US have VoLTE phones than? Is that the only way Americans can use voice?

HI @Chris_

only voice might not work, both data and text will still work

for voice, you might still be able to use T-Mobile's 2G network if you don't have a VoLTE whitelisted phone.  But the T-Mobile 2G network is shutting down soon, so you might not be able to connected

but workaround is that you can use VoIP app like TextNow to make and receive phone calls on the app using another 10 digits number

@Chris_  Just voice calls will be issue text and data  will still work fine
