hi @Immune just be aware, even you checked the phone and it is clean and working., it could still got blacklisted shortly after.  We had many stories like this in this Community.  Reason is that those people sold the leased phones and then run away from their carriers.  The carriers them blacklist the phones and the one who bought the phones suffer

Buyer beware for 2nd hand phones from Kijiji and Facebook marketplace.  There are many reported scams on these sites.  Sometimes stolen phones are sold on these sites.  Other times, the seller will blacklist the phone afterwards after selling the phone.

Yes I do agree that we should all be aware of scams. However we should not be discouraged but should be vigilant not only from buying private but also from retailers. One should familiarize with a product no matter what it is. With regards to iPhones one should of course check to see if it's iCloud locked , black listed etc. Before I hand over the cash I first of all asked sellers for the phones EIME number and a quick check on the Apple site determines if all is OK before meeting and physical inspection. I have not been lucky with my purchases but just careful and that is why over the years I have purchased good used  iPhones - on 2 occasions the sellers didn't even know that the phones had extended apple care - after purchasing I just took the phone to apple centre and complained about poor battery life and was without hassle just replaced with brand new some model phones. Again not lucky just vigilant and informed.

hi @Immune and @Jinx-_-

I would be really careful if buy from Kijiji or Marketplaces (I would actually avoid myself).  We heard many stories about phone bought was blacklisted or broken and those marketplace sites have no responsibility at all

So, I would go with proper stories with trackable history

@Jinx-_-  Most if not all cell phone repair places offer used phones for sale.

Just a suggestion - try Kijiji , FaceBook Marketplace etc. Sometimes you can find great deals and don't be afraid to somewhat low bal. Keep in mind that sellers are more motivated than you to sell their old stuff. In my case have purchased my iPhone 12 ( maybe it;'s too old for you) that even still had apple care warranty.

@Jinx-_- , what is your price point, iPhone or android?  If android, I would not buy used, just wait for a google sale.  You can get an a-series phone for about $300-350 with 7 year software support.

@Handy1

I agree that the Moto G 5G is a good budget phone but the only drawback on Moto phones is that they only have 1 year of security OS update where as iPhones have 5-7 years and Samsung have 5 years if updates...just my 2 cents.

My favorite place to get a refurbished, open box or new phone is at Openbox.ca if you are looking for an iPhone or Android phone.

@Jinx-_-  what is your budget?  Personally, I am not in favor of buying used.  There are too many scammers out there.  If you are partial to android, sales are available from time to time.  Google offers good deals within about 6 months of a new phone release.  I have seen Costco sell Motorola phones at reasonable prices.

This is a pretty good budget phone

Black Friday is fast approaching which is a good buying opportunity.
