We have 50gb, Can and USA plans for $34/month.... We cross over into New York state from Ontario this morning, and we're prompted with roaming charges - why?

the message is a default message for everyone with or without roaming plan or roaming add-on. Just ignore if you have the correct plan.
make sure you have Mobile data roaming enabled on your phone, and connected to T-Mobile or AT&T. Sometimes, you need to manually connect to both and see which one works better

it's normal, you can just ignore it. Everyone gets that when you are in US
