Public Mobile takes away 30GB of data

As a insulting bonus for switching to the inferior rewards system, Public Mobile offered me 30GB. I was on a 1GB plan, which I rarely used in full. I switched to a plan with no data, as 30GB would last me a while (until it expired), however immediately upon switching my plan, Public Mobile immediately yanked away all of my 30GB, without warning.

Not only did I get a measly 30GB. Not only does the data expire quickly. Public Mobile took away the data after long before expiry, and I only got to use less than 100MB of it.

To add to the insult, switching back to the previous plan would make me forfeit the entire amount of the bill I paid for the new plan, as Public Mobile does not offer any credits for unused time. So, now I have 2 choices: be without any data for the next 30 days or lose a month's worth of bill payment.

What a nice present for loyalty all these years.

I doubt anything will be corrected, so I'll be switching to Fizz while their promotion lasts - their data does not expire and it rolls over each month.

I definitely did not receive any emails from Public Mobile - only a short text informing me of the data bonus. Glad I wasn't the only one that didn't get the email.

@VadimK  Plans $29 and above got a 240GB bonus, the $25 plan got 30GB and the $15 plan got a 5GB bonus. You may be able to contact support for them to add the appropriate 5GB bonus to your account.

If you're curious, the fine print explaining that they would take away your loyalty bonus if you switched to a cheaper plan was in an email they sent a while back.

Public Mobile didn't send that e-mail message to everyone.  In some cases, only a text message was sent to customers advising that a data bonus had been applied and the only condition ever mentioned in that text was that it would expire in 150 days.  For such customers, Public Mobile never actually informed them of the condition about losing the add-on if the plan was downgraded.

The data bucket amounts go by the value of the plans itself. Which yes, it's weird, however, it was for your loyalty, plain and simple. Nothing more nothing less.

Hmm... If the data were given to me for my "loyalty", and not my monetary plan, then I wonder why my wife got 250GB of data while I only got 30GB. We have been with Public Mobile the exact amount of time, as we both joined days apart. Looks like the distribution of data was arbitrary and unfair.

Hello @VadimK

Sadly yes, if you lower your plan to a lower monetary plan, you lose your "Loyalty Data" according to PM. However, that data was given to you for your "Loyalty" NOT the amount you were paying per month. You are more than welcome to contact Public Mobile with that little chat button bottom right corner to share your concerns.
