Public Mobile is "validating" spam callers in Google Dialer

This happened Motorola ThinkPhone with Google Dialer.

My phone received a spam call, which I recognized by the pattern of the number (+1416_something_, real caller ID doesn't do that for local numbers). Yet somehow at the top of the dialer, it claims that it is "Public Mobile verified" the number. Went ahead and asked Google Dialer to screen it using Assistant, low and behold it was a "Service Canada suspended my SIN" scam call.

Since when did Public Mobile / Telus start "verifying" scam numbers?

I didn't catch a screen shot, but it's not the first time. I'll try to cap it if it happens again.

This actually sounds plausible.

It's the same dialer on Pixels. Motorola uses stock Android.

I have android too but never heard of 'google dialer'? WHHY would you use that? Normal phone is not enough?

@ToniCipriani85   From what I've read it sounds as though a verified number just means that it is from a legitimate phone number and not a spoofed number.  If I understand how it works correctly, the sending carrier indicates that it's a real number, it doesn't verify that it isn't a scam.   Since I got this information from a couple of forums on the web it must be true lol!   Looking up the first six digits of that number implies it is a Telus mobile number.  I wonder if it is a PM number and that's why it says verified by PM?

I'm very well aware that it is a scam. I'm saying Google Dialer claims that Public Mobile verified this to be a safe number.

That's not my phone number, but the spoofed caller ID.

I would not believe that infroamtion.  There is no such thing as "suspending" a socail insurance number.  In addition, this notice would be sent by postal mail. I would high suggest to delete and ignore this message.  If in doubt, call the official government phone number on the Government of Canada websites (not the phone number in the above text message).

I am not aware of PM doing ANY 'spam verification'.

What you use is 3rd party app or services nothing to do with PM. And I would stay away from google... no matter how 'helpful' they are.

This was the number that Public Mobile "verified".
