Public Mobile Call Outage

On March 14, 2025, a few people I know (including myself) received a message regarding cell network upgrades and how from March 17, 2025 and onwards we would have "lost or experience a degraded connection". Is there a time window where calling and receiving calls will be restored?

@justin_yl3278 Yeah. And I would suggest sticking to North American phones for best results. Here's some more info on VoLTE:

EDIT: Looks like the VoLTE article I linked is now pulled down.

@DennyCrane , the VoLTE article is still there, you just lost the e at the end .. https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/get-help/articles/volte

@justin_yl3278 you are lucky you have Xiaomi, you can enable VoKTE and could resolve the problem

you can enable  Volte in an Xiaomi phone  by typing *#*#86583#*#* in the dial pad and pushing send.

Yeah, I have a Xiaome Redmi Note 8 Pro, it's coming up on 7 years old. Perhaps it is time to upgrade...

It's not a temporary outage, it's a permanent redeployment of older 3G spectrum. That message went out to people in certain areas who have older phones that may not be VoLTE compatible, thus are dependent on 3G to make phone calls.

I'm assuming you have an older phone? It may be time to think about am upgrade unfortunately.

The outage only affects phones that are not using Volte. Some phones have Volte disabled by default. If you can enable Volte on your phone, it may still work.

What phone model do you have?

Try googling "[your phone model] enable Volte" to see if you can enable yor phone. If you cannot enable Volte, you will probably need to purchase a new phone which is volte compatible. Good luck.

It might or might not affect you , depends on your phone. What model phone you have?

The issue is PM changing the 850 On 3G and leave only 1900 in some area.  Maby overseas phones do not have 1900 on 3G and hence no voice call after the change
