Porting when not the main account holder

Hey everyone,

I’d like to switch from Rogers to Public. Currently, my dad is the main account holder of the rogers account that my phone number is on. There are 5 lines including mine. He pays the bill for all 5.

I’m wanting to go on my own now. I am the only one switching, and I want to know if I port over my number, will I have any issues? Will it affect him at all? Is there anything he would have to do?

Hey all!

just want to say a big thank you for all your helpful responses! I’ve successfully ported my number with no issues!

hi @jwgouldd if you can find account number, use that instead of IMEI.  There are many  failed porting when IMEI is provided

@jwgouldd - You would need to ask him for the account number of your rogers line. It will not affect any others bills / numbers.

If he cannot find his account number for your line, you will need to use the IMEI number from your phone, although it is not suggested for porting purposes as it may lead to trouble, it could work as a secondary option. Dial *#06# to access where the IMEI is.

It will ask to enter the account number, there is an option to also port via IMEI.

@jwgouldd , there is no problem moving any of the lines from the Rogers account to Public Mobile.  A few tips when doing the transfer, set up a new account with Public Mobile and take a new number first.  After successful account set up, then do the number transfer.  When submitting the transfer, all you need to submit is the phone number and account number (do not use IMEI) to Public Mobile.  Be sure to keep the Rogers SIM in the phone so that you can confirm the number transfer when asked to do so via text on the Rogers end.  That is about it.  Also activation on Public Mobile must be completed using the mobile app.

hi @jwgouldd no worries , it won't affect the main line and it won't close the main account after you ported

to port, just need to provide PM the phone number and your Rogers account number.  And your line with Rogers must be active

Remember to download PM app and start subscription there.  Also, get a friend code to save $10
