Poor unstable data connection

Kvis

I’ve been using Public Mobile for about a month now, but I’ve been experiencing hit-and-miss connectivity, which is becoming a big concern.

Here’s the issue:

  • I often have 5 signal bars, but my data speed is incredibly slow or non-existent.
  • I’ve restarted my phone numerous times, but it hasn’t resolved the problem.
  • I rely on a digital phone line for my business, so having reliable and fast data is critical.
  • My phone is a Samsung S23Ultra

Has anyone else experienced similar issues with Public Mobile? Are there any solutions I can try? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Thank you Phil.

Yes, it's a hit and miss but I will continue to optimize and try different things.

I agree with him. I live in a house & get 2-3 bars most of the time, else, its just fluctuating. Still, I will say no complaints. You get what you pay + the benefits are quite nice (especially points for paying the bill)
Many people noticed a drop in service in certain areas, maybe due to network enhancement? As per the map, Abbotsford seems to have good coverage, not sure, maybe the house material?
5G sometimes might have a hard time connecting inside home, so try 4G most of the time to see if it brings any difference in it. I like LTE+ more, mostly due to less impact on battery, as I stay out most of the day.
@Kvis try following what he @Phil said too, maybe it works out for yaa?

@Kvis  Tonight, it downloads 136 Mbps and uploads 26.0 Mbp

I would say that's a fairly good speed, I wouldn't call it "incredibly slow", remember that all the carriers advertise their speeds as "up to" and PM's 4G plans are up to 100 Mbps down and 250 Mbps down on 5G.  I sometimes get higher than what you are getting, sometimes lower.  I never have 5 bars here at home, I don't take much notice of the number of bars as long as the phone is working.  Usually it is between one and two when I'm at home and it was the same when I was on Rogers.  If you really need higher speeds than that then you may be better with a Tier 1 carrier although from what others have said they aren't necessarily all that much faster, at least some of the time.

You also mentioned the connection is unstable, do you mean the service is dropped periodically?

Thats interesting. I do swap between LTE/5G, as per my needs. Most of the time, I am on 4G as the network switch is kinda seamless. I live and work mostly in Downtown, so I dont find it problematic. Yes, when the SkyTrain is in the tunnels, occasionally you may lose or get 1 bar, but other than that, I haven't had issues as such, since 2023!
Where do you live in Abbotsford? Try looking up the coverage map & maybe a newer software update to fix the patches?

hi Phil. You are right. Sorry. Tonight, it downloads 136 Mbps and uploads 26.0 Mbps. I have the Can/Us/Mex 20gb. I tried switching between 5G and 4G but didn't notice a difference. I'm currently in Abbotsford.

@Kvis  The upload is between 110-130 but download is so poor - like between 3-4

Are you sure you have those numbers the right way around?  If those numbers were reversed (download vs upload) they wouldn't be too bad.   I've never seen upload as fast as that assuming Mbps and not Kbps.  What plan do you have?  You didn't answer the question about 5G or 4G/LTE in the phone settings, but if you want to bring this up with customer service open a service ticket at the chat icon bottom right of this page.

Thank you. I did reset. The upload is between 110-130 but download is so poor - like between 3-4

I'm in Abbotsford, BC, right now. 5 bars showing, though.

@Kvis Speeds have been good for me, often close to the max advertised, even slightly above on occasion.  In settings is your phone set to 5G, or LTE?  Maybe try reset network settings if you haven't already.

hi @Kvis

Samsung S23U should be great.

where you are at? major city?

Try Reset Network settings.  if that does not help, try changing network to 4G or LTE and use it for a week and see if it gives more stable connection
