Does anyone know if you can transfer an American number?

my daughter is done school in states but doesn’t want to lose her American phone number

Sorry only Canadian area numbers.
One option is to port the number over to TextNow then call forward to Public Mobile number after she is on PM.

She can use TextNow on wifi but she needs a plan with PM for data or when there are no wifi available.

@Jodi11   Maybe check out the Fongo voip app.  It offers US numbers, but I don't know if you can port an existing US number (I know you can for Canadian numbers).  If it's possible then she can keep using her US number over cellular data with a Canadian carrier as well as wifi.

Unfortunately, you cannot port in the US number to any Canadian Provider.  Hope this helps
