I don't ask for me (i already have in my plan).

Somebody that use other provider ask me about that before getting the decision to use Public Mobile or keep another provider.

@sophitechnicusñ if that's the only thing you need it for and you're happy with your PM plan otherwise, do check out Fongo, since you can use a free Fongo number to receive text messages.

It's true, but if somebody needs to choose, i think that those can choose another provider, not Public Mobile, only for a few SMS necessary for online account confirmation ... this is the difference.

@sophitechnicusñ Public Mobile definitely works a bit differently than most.

@sophitechnicusñ remember that PM is an entirely prepaid service.  You get exactly what services you select and pay for, nothing more and nothing less.  If you need to be able to receive texts, you would need to select the text feature as part of your plan.

Another possible workaround:  if you only want to receive text messages and either have data as part of your plan or have frequent access to WiFi networks, you could download the Fongo app (for iPhone or for Android phones).  It will give you free incoming unlimited text messages, albeit not at your normal PM phone number, you'd have a separate Fongo number on which you can recieve texts.  If you want to be able to reply/send texts, I believe they also offer that feature for a small fee, around $3 or so a month if I remember correctly.

My mother and brother had talk only plan before they switched to Koodo and they cannot received any SMS exert from Public Mobile. What was annoying about it, that at the end of SMS would say “If you don’t want to received messages from us, then reply with word STOP”!!! How could they reply if it was Talk only plan and there was no ability to send SMS!!! After they switched to Koodo to retain their price plan, they were able to receive and send SMS.

This story is too funny!  I stand corrected then.  I had to block the sender on my sms app because the phone was totally unusable with a pop up sms every minute or two.
