Only getting H+ signal instead of 4G

Crashzilla

I just migrated my number to Public, and now my phone is only getting H+ signal. I saw one person commenting about setting up the APN, but it's already set. I also checked the radio frequency of my phone and I should be covered.

ApN is for data issue only and not related with the signal you got

check the phone Preferred Network type or network mode is set to Automatic or 4G or LTE

And try to reseat the sim card and reboot

if you have another phone, test your PM sim there

And what brand and model is your phone?

which city and province you are at?

Reseating the SIM card does not do anything, well much less than the amount of times I see the suggestion being made in the community.  The SIM card is like a key that opens the door to the network.  If the phone does not show a SIM card being present, then checking and reinserting SIM is warranted.  Even if the phone detects an inactive SIM, the SIM is actually seated properly.  I just worry most about sliding the SIM tray in and out so much, particularly on some dual SIM phones that include a third slot for a micro SD card.  Those long sliders feel so flimsy.

@Crashzilla   we are happy as long as your issue got resolved

Welcome to Public Mobile

@Crashzilla  Whoo hoo , awesome we happy to hear it 🙂

Well, I'm not sure exactly which one fixed it, but I tried 2 things.

  1. I tried to put the Public SIM in the main slot and a second, still active, SIM that I had laying around in the second slot.
  2. I also messed around in the Testing Menu which allowed me to set the preferred network with a lot more details than the mobile network. (I accessed it by typing *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer).

No idea which one fixed or if it was both at the same time but now I'm getting 4G in the main slot. Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

If your settings menu is like mine - settings, connections, mobile networks. Set both sims to 4G/3G/2G. It might say as LTE/WCDMA/GSM. Or combinations.

Then go in and out of airplane mode. Turn on cell data. See what symbol shows up top.

You might also simply be out of range or very weak signal.

@Crashzilla  So can you change set net work on sim slot 1 ( main slot ) to 4G /LTE or automatic and reboot device and see if that helps

Yes, there is.

@Crashzilla  So still won’t work in Main slot … is there a spot in your  phone settings for each slots preference for networks

My phone is dual SIM so I tried setting up in the second slot. For some reason it get the 4G signal only in the second, but I would like to leave it in the main slot if possible (Second slot can also be used for a microsd card). I don't have a second phone at hand to try re provision it.

No that's only for transferring.

What specific make and model of phone is it?

@Crashzilla  I’m not sure my thought was by trying in another phone could force it to re provision itself … so now it’s working for you thou ?

Well, thanks to you suggestion of taking out the SIM and trying in another phone. I tried to put it in the second SIM slot and it worked... but only in the second slot. Could this be because when creating my account I used my second IMEI number?
