@solebanana

it's not unusual it has data but not voice as the phone is not fully compatible with PM

Nokia G21 International is not on PM's VoLTE whitelist, and  It's lacks 1900Mhz on 3G

While your phone has VoLTE, it is not on PM's VoLTE whitelist , hence it is using only 3G for voice

But Telus is currently  refarming the 850MHz band 5 spectrum and hence those affected areas are left with 1900MHz for voice calls if they cannot use VoLTE

Your phone had been using only  850Mhz for voice.  With the above change and as your phone lacks 1900Mhz on 3G,  the voice calls are really impacted.    (Data is not impacted as your phone has the compatible bands on 4G/5G)

There is really nothing much you can do other than getting a phone that is on PM's own VoLTE whitelist

I was using a Nokia G21. A mobile repair shop demonstrated the chip worked using one of their phones. I therefore got an unlocked phone from Walmart and I appear to be in business. The odd thing was, the Nokia could get data in Canada, just not voice. 🤔

yes. Some have this problem due to some changes with the network

what phone do you have? PM uses Telus and Bell Network. Telus is in the process or realigning some 850 Mhz channel on its 3G network for other use. People who have phones that is not whitelist on PM VoLTE list (some older phones) and those do not have 1900Mhz (phones that are not designed primarily for North America) will have voice trouble.

So, depends on the phone you have, it might not be something that can be fixed unless you change phone, or if your phone has VoLTE, then you can move to Koodo or Telus

But check if your phone can use VoLTE here
