You might find here by Imei number.
As long as If was a carrier locked phone at purchase.
But if was later unlocked and black listed.....your up the creek without a paddle.
Or if sold unlocked by Apple store or carrier..... “ “ ” ” ”

Though rare there have been users who have successfully had a phone removed from the blacklist because it was done by error or not removed after a request for removal was sent in. Its worth a try to get it removed given the loss of the price you likely paid for it.

to reduce your losses I would sell the phone on eBay to an international seller as the phone will not be blocked outside USA and canada. unfortunately it's too risky to purchase used devices because of this very reason. the last time I purchased a used phone we met at a police station. if one were to buy a used phone the best options are from a Canadian seller who has a store on eBay or Amazon.

wow. this is terrible.
thank you so much for being so helpful.
All of this might not even be your seller's fault. We have no idea if the seller is the person who actually used the phone or if it had been previously purchased from someone else. Let's assume that this device didn't get blacklisted yet. You could have used the phone for a couple of months and then decided to sell it. The devices still could have got marked as lost or stolen and the next buyer would be thinking that you were the person behind it.

@MarleyG No, not something PM can help
If the seller is an honest person, he will call his carrier to settle the bill and have them carrier to take it off the blacklist. But... Good Lucky.. very slim chance
Ironically, while some carriers have done this in the past, the national database of lost and stolen device isn't supposed to be used for biling disputes betwen the customer and the carrier. I have read about a few cases in which the carrier replaced the device after a CCTS complaint as the the blocking of devices via this method is supposed to be for phones lost or stolen and reported by the csutomer or a device that was stolen from the supply channel. Representatives of some of the carriers were interviewed for the story that I read, and some specifically say that they will not report add a device to the national lost/stolen list for account payment issues.

If the seller doesn't help you ....you can turn it into your local police station and report the seller for selling you a stolen phone. Providers will blacklist a phone but it usually takes quite a long time as they will go thru the collections process first. Still its unlikely you will recover the funds unless the seller is willing to take the phone back and return your funds. Bring back up and choose a local "safe" exchange area under camera surveillance. Most cities have recommended buyer/seller exchange zones. Google it. Sorry this happened to you....

@MarleyG If he is nice, you can try to contact him again. Sometime people switch mobile carrier for good deals and forgot about the bill or the unpaid phone. Maybe he will help
But yes, private sell is very risky these days. And only that person and his old carrier can settle the situation and put it off the blacklist

@MarleyG Carrier might not put the phone on blacklist immediately. The seller could be still using the service since he sold you the phone, and just flee away lately.
You can try to contact the seller, again, but very slim chance he will help. (We heard so many cases like this before)
So, only solution is to buy another phone. At least get a spare phone from friend or family for now until you got a new phone
So, you bought it off Kijiji or other marketplace?

@MarleyG @I am sorry but your phone is useless

@MarleyG wrote:does this mean the person I bought it from stole it?

@MarleyG could be
it's either he stole and sold to you
or he got it from a carrier but didn't pay his bill and left the carrier. The carrier will then blacklisted the unpaid phone
06-03-2022 10:13 PM
can public mobile un-blacklist me?

correct!
06-03-2022 10:10 PM
so it says my phone was blacklisted.... does this mean I can no longer use it and need a new phone?

@MarleyG I hope you changed the sim card number in your self-serve account. You don't mean you "activated" a new account, correct?

thanks so much. but what link do i go to?
06-03-2022 10:05 PM
@MarleyG @I am wondering if your phone is blacklisted
06-03-2022 10:04 PM
@MarleyG Carrier could have put phone to the "blacklisted" because of payment issue. If phone is blacklisted, it cannot be used in any Canadian network anymore
Go to the link, put the IMEI of the problematic phone and see what the result is
06-03-2022 10:03 PM
what does that mean
06-03-2022 10:02 PM
06-03-2022 10:02 PM
yes I did..... but its been working perfectly for months
06-03-2022 10:01 PM
@MarleyG @If it worked in another phone it’s not an issue with public did you buy phone used
06-03-2022 10:00 PM
Ive been using public mobile for months. one day it randomly stopped working and I had no signal so I bought a new sim card and activated it and the problem continued.
