I have friends who are travelling from Alberta to Ontario and from the Saskatchewan border on, they don't have any service. Does anyone know why?

They should definitely have coverage with Sasktel sites in SK.

If the area of service disruption was throughout Ontario, might be issues with account. Check self service account to check account status.

Likely just in a certain area where there is no tower reception.

@Morgan20Make sure your friend's account is still active. here is a map of all the cell towers in Canda https://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/cancellsites.html
Sasktel peers with Bell so coverage shouldn't be an issue.

They haven't had service all throughout their drive to Ontario from Sask though

I'm not sure where they were in Sask but they haven't had service all throughout their trip to Ontario

Not sure is there a current outage in the area? Where is Saskatchewan are they traveling? Doesn't Sasktel dominate that area?

Your friends are probably in an area that is not close to a Telus or Bell tower. Every service has areas where the reception is weak or poor.
Maybe ask them to check out the coverage map:
