Hello all,
Trying to activate a new sim and I got "invalid sim error" how can I check to see if the sim is already activated?
Thanks

And doing this without completing this test activation won't mark it as having been used hopefully. SIMs behaviour still seems a bit odd to me!

Not true. Just try to activate it. If it lets you, it's never been used.
Exactly! If you have the physical SIM go to the activation screen, type in the 19 digit number and move to another field. No error it’s ok......error and it has been already activated.

Are we talking invalid sim in the actual phone or while activating online???
I meant the actual phone ("Invalid SIM" displayed by the phone itself). Sorry if I misunderstood the question.

@Korth wrote:"Invalid SIM" is displayed by almost all carrier-locked phones when a SIM from a different carrier is installed. Whether the SIM has been activated or not.
Restart your phone, if you haven't already.
Login to your Self-Serve and confirm your SIM has been activated.
Try your PM SIM card in another (unlocked, Telus-locked, or Koodo-locked) phone.

Thanks @Korth . While I haven't had any locked phone issues I felt that it was a possibility and while the OP did say "during activation" that could easily be at the point of putting the SIM card in the phone during activation.

At time of registering a SIM would not matter if Phone was locked. Or did I miss something?

Right. First step try to use it.
I have used the activation site to confirm if my extra SIM is valid but if my SIM card in use is keyed in I will get an error which confirms, to me, that it is registered. No error = sim not registered yet.
Did you you by chance, type in the wrong SIM card number?

@PHSHOMES Check to see if your credit card was charged. If yes put the SIM card in your phone and see if your services are working. See if you can log into your self serve.
If none of these are working wait out the one hour. Clear your browser. Use incognito/secret mode in Firefox or chrome as they work best and start the process over again.
If you got the invalid sim message on the very first attempt there is a very small chance you have a defective SIM card. If you purchased from public mobile open a service ticket to speak with moderators about a credit/refund. If you bought at a retail location go back and ask for an exchange / refund. Have them test the old sim card/new sim and consider doing your actinpvation in store. If its walmart they may offer you the sim for free if activated in store.

Maybe take it to a retailer? I purchased my SIM from Walmart and the first one didnt work, so they replaced it.

Was that a one and only one attempt? Or did you make more attempts? Give it about an hour and try again. Use incognito/privacy mode or an open unfettered browser too maybe.

@PHSHOMES Was your credit card charged? If you insert your card in an unlocked phone Is PM shown as your provider? If not, wait for 50 minutes, clear your browser history, go to incognito/ private mode , diable adblock and try again. Remember to leave the credit card apt field blank. Enter your apt # in the address field ie xxx- street address.
If your card was charged, or you get the invalid SIM message again, then contact a moderator and explain your situation. Click on the green questionmark in the white circle at the bottom right of your screen. This connects to the autobot Simon . Type moderator and follow the prompts to get to one (CLICK on account specific question and human and submit a ticket )
