New account activation

I’m assisting an elderly friend get setup on Public Mobile. We’ve opened an account and ordered a SIM. He has a flip phone, and does not have email (we’re using mine for the account), he only uses the phone for occasional calling. Does anybody foresee problems with activation?

Well, as long as you sign them up using a smart phone and downloaded the app as this is how you sign up. If you completed it and a SIM card is on the way, there shouldn't be any issues. The only thing you will have to do is once you get the SIM card, place it in your phone and open the app to finish the process. Once you can start making calls and texts and data works, even though they have a flip phone, then you can take it out place it in their flip phone and reboot.

Now, this is where I see a problem in the very near future. Public Mobile/Telus is moving away from 3G and I am sure the phone itself is only 3G or even if it's 4G, it may not be on the VoLTE list. So their phone may only last until 3G is gone and may require a new phone in the future. Just a heads up.

While activation needs to be completed using the app, there's no requirement to insert the SIM card into the smartphone to complete the Public Mobile activation.

hi @Sailorman

I don't see any problem.  Only thing is that you need the app to activate, so you will need to help your friend and activate with the app on your phone.  Once it is activated , you can then put the sim card in the flip phone

for your friend, after the activate is activated, he can use the browser to login My Account and check and he does not need the app anymore.  Just make sure the flip phone can receive sms for 2FA code to login
