New Sim not working in a new unlock Easyfone

Cynthia13

I just bought a new Easyfone from Amazon for my 88 year old mother.   I picked up a sim card today and registered it and put it in the phone.   I am getting this message "SIM card updating"  it has been saying this for 4 hours.   Can someone provide some suggestions to get the sim to work?   Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

These devices have simple embedded operating systems and softwares. They need paltry amounts of memory to run. Maybe a few hundred MB at most, depending on how much extra bloatware the manufacturer includes.

The advertised 16GB probably refers to total addressable memory capacity - system RAM (cache memory) plus system ROM (nvflash and firmware) plus storage (user-installed SD cards or whatever).

I doubt they're actually equipped out of the box with more than 1GB or 2GB. But even that's overkill for basic flip-phones unless you intend to carry a lot of files around on them (more files than you could reasonably browse, download, read, view, or listen to on such a simple slow tiny-display limited-interface device).

16GB of memory for a flip phone seems suspect to me? Thats the same as my samsung galaxy A320....?

... just noticed this one can be purchased in a discount bundle ...

... phone plus PM SIM card plus Chatr SIM card plus Lucky SIM card

Not sure why you'd need all three SIM cards, though it is a dual-SIM phone. Pick your evil?

But at least you'd be assured compatibility.

This is all I could find about "unlocking" an Easyfone. Maybe it will help, though it looks like something else.

User manuals (for all Easyfone models) are here.

They do sell these in USA, and American consumer wireless devices are supposed to be fully compatible with Canadian consumer wireless devices. But you can always compare the specs in the manual with Public Mobile (Telus) bands/frequencies to confirm whether it's radio-compatible.

I noticed that this particular device seems to gain generally poor reviews when compared vs other devices intended for seniors and elderly. Its main selling feature is the "SOS Radar" button - a great idea! - but (among other give-and-take tradeoffs) it apparently causes many false alarms because this "SOS" button placement makes it far too easy to activate unintentionally.

The model # would be helpful. Put the sim card in another phone to see if it works. This will determine if its a device issue or a sim card issue.

The Easyfone Prime A-1 flip phone should work on 3G at 1900MHz.
What model is the Easyfone?
Maybe try rebooting the phone by powering off then wait 2 minutes and power back on.

Is it supported by LTE or 3g HSPA at the minimum?

Edit: It looks like Easyphone is an Indian phone company, which may not work with PM.

It appears Easyphone is operatable on the old 2G network, which isn't supported by any of the Big Three networks. Just return the phone to Amazon and get this instead.
