Never got 5G coverage with 5G plan subscription

I am subscribing to a 5G plan, and my phone supports 5G, but I never got 5G on my phone even inside big cities such as Vancouver and Calgary when I travelled through BC, AB, SK, and MB. It's always shown as LTE or LTE+. Do I need to do any setting to get 5G on my phone? Does anyone in the above provinces get 5G coverage?

Will submit a ticket. Thanks a lot!

hi @Larryljz2

with S20, there was some legacy history that Samsung didn't enable 5G for Public Mobile and Koodo and it is too old the phone for Samsung to make any update, so it is what it is

if you don't get over 100Mbps with the 5G plan, make sure you turned off Battery save mode and data saver.   And also, ask PM support agent to check

submit a ticket with PM agent and for reimbursement.  You can submit ticket with CS Agent using this Chatbot link:  https://widget.telus.tiia.ai/publicmobile/publicmobile.html  Type the question "Submit ticket", Then click the following in order: "Contact Us" ,  "Other",  "Log In".
If any issue with ticket submission, you can  submit by direct message:

Thank you for your message. My phone is Samsung S20 5G FE.

I ran ten speed tests on my phone, which is shown as LTE+, and got download speeds between 65 - 93 mpbs. I think this speed is in the range of LTE speed. So, I still don't get 5G speed.

Thank you for your message. My phone is Samsung S20 5G FE. There is no "5G" option for Network Mode, and  I can only choose LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) or one of them. However, 5G or even 5G+ was shown on my phone when I subscribed to Bell.

You will need to set your settings Data Roaming Option or Network Mode on 5G or 5G Auto depending on the make and model of your phone.

The above isn't right.  Travelling from city to city within Canada isn't roaming.   The data roaming settings will have zero effect no matter how that setting is configured while using Public Mobile service in Canada.

I live in Edmonton and I do get 5G.  I have an iPhone and leave the setting on 5G auto.  Which phone do you have?

Even if you are connect to LTE, with the 5G plans, you will get Public mobile's 5G speeds on LTE.  Public mobile throttles the data speed depending on your plan:  5G at max 250 Mbps, LTE at max 100 Mbps.

@Larryljz2  Another possibility is a setting in your phone.  In the connections setting do you see 5G or is LTE the highest?   If you see 5G but it's set to LTE then switch the setting.  There are some phones that advertise as 5G capable but don't have the right band for Public Mobile so it would help to know what phone you have as @hTideGnow asked

hi @Larryljz2

what phone do you have?

also, you have to understand that the 5G plan does not mean exclusive use of 5G network.  In fact, people on 3G or 4G plan can all use 5G network

5G plan actually give you the 5G speed, which is max at 200Mbps.  And you can get that speed even on 4G network with a 5G plan

so, can you run couple speed test using the speedtest app and check what speed you are getting on LTE or LTE+ network?
