MMS not working

DildodoBird
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Recently ported number from bell to public.

Everything seems to work except MMS.

Can make outgoing calls.

Can receive incoming calls.

Get pop up message saying MMS doesn’t work.

Gives two options:  cancel or settings.

Phone is iPhone.

Cannot enter number.   Will not save!

Why can’t I enter the number?   Why won’t it save?

What I meant is....  a refund is up to them.... not me. I'm just a customer like you and nobody can refund on these forums. I just point in the direction that helps you the best. 🙂

I cannot send or receive MMS on my phone.   I have narrowed the problem down to a problem on Public Mobile's end.   Everything on my end is configured and as it should be.   The problem is that MMS cannot activate!   The problem lies in activation!   Activation fails!

I am not going to play games with Public Mobile.  Either fix the issue and provide me the services I paid for or refund my money and I will switch to a carrier that doesn't play games.   I also expect a prorated credit for the time that I was without these services in the event that you cease playing games.

It didn’t work in the iPhone 13 or the iPhone 11.   I haven’t tried it in the XS Max because that phone is a little long in the tooth and physically larger than I want to carry around.

i’m also using esims and not a physical SIM card.   I have tried five esims now and have met with negative results.   I suppose I will have to try a physical sim in my iPhone 16.   (The eSIM in my 16 is already being used)

@DildodoBird

if the same sim work on another phone (iPhone 13 Mini), it is a device problem.

Maybe time to visit an Apple Store.

The phone I wanted it to be used on was an iPhone 11.   It didn’t work.

I have just now made two attempts to get it to work on an iPhone 13 Mini.

i might try it on my old iPhone XS Max but i really don’t want to be carrying that giant thing around.

I will need to get a physical SIM card to try it on my iPhone 16.

there is no vpn on either phone.

wifi calling is always disabled on all of my phones.

the correct iCloud account is being used.

@DildodoBird

What model of iPhone?

Edit:

Any chance there's a VPN on the device? If so delete it and reboot. Try adding the phone # again.

Edit#2:

One more thought...check that the correct Apple ID is being used on all connected devices (iPad, iPhone etc...)

Edit#3:

Also check wifi calling setting and disable it if its enabled.

There is nothing for banks etcetera to catch up on.  It’s the same phone number that I had with the previous carrier.   Nothing has changed as far as people sending me MMS, sms, and telephone calls are concerned.

also this is not the first time that I have switched to and ported a number from bell to public.   This is the third time I have switched from bell to public and the third time I have ported a phone number from bell to public.   This is the first time I have had an issue switching from bell to public but it is the third time I have switched from bell to public.   The first time I switched I had no issues whatsoever and it was as though I hadn’t switched carriers at all because there were literally no issues at all.   The second time I switched a family member and it too went off without a hitch.  This time everything went swimmingly except for this MMS issue.   This MMS issue has meant that I have had to choose alternate means of logging into a couple of sites, including this site, because MMS is not working.

i even know why it’s not working.   The little popup box makes it abundantly clear why it’s not working; the “My Number” section in the Phone and Cellular settings field is empty.  The problem is that the number I enter doesn’t save e.g. +1 (555) 555-3210.  Fake number for illustrative purposes only.

So how do I get my phone number in those fields?   How do I get it to save the number I enter?   One would presume that it would be a simple matter of pressing the blue “save” in the upper right corner but it is apparently not that simple.

@CSA_PM  The phone is an iPhone, so the only APN you can change is for the hotspot and if you change that to sp.mb.com it will change itself back to isp.mb.com

Hi there,

Try to delete all the APNs in the settings of the device and add the updated one, following the steps form the website (the APN should be: SP.MB.COM in all caps).

@DildodoBird   MMS except that two factor authentication codes are sent by MMS

As far as I know, two factor authentication codes are sent by SMS, not MMS.  Since you just switched from another carrier it is normal for 2fa codes to take several days to start coming through as the banks etc. catch up with the change.  How many days has it been?  Also, are you sure you are receiving other SMS messages?

@DildodoBird

Have you updated your carrier profile? Connect to wifi or iTunes to configure your APN on an iPhone. If it's an older iPhone you may find these articles helpful...

iMessage works and I believe sms works as well.

MMS was already on.   Disabled it and rebooted.   Enabled MMS after reboot and same issue.

when I open the messages app I get a pop up that says:  MMS messaging requires your phone number.   Press settings to go to phone settings and enter your phone number.

then it gives me the option to press cancel or settings.

pressing settings brings me to an empty box and a keyboard.   I can enter the phone number but it doesn’t save.

i really don’t give a **bleep** about MMS except that two factor authentication codes are sent by MMS and I’m not receiving the one time codes because of this issue.

Reset network settings and it did not fix the issue.  The my number thingy in cellular settings and phone settings is still empty and save still doesn’t work.   Still get popup when launching messages app that says MMS requires phone number.

Hello @DildodoBird

First, because you came over from Bell, best to do a reset of your Network Settings. That will clear anything from Bell that is  messing with your Public Mobile.

Do regular SMS or iMessage work?

did you turn on MMS?  or if already turned on , disable it and reboot and turn it back on again

open the Settings app, tap "Messages," scroll down to the "SMS/MMS" section, and toggle the "MMS Messaging" switch to the on position.
