Good day,

I am calling Ottawa from Victoria. I place a 1 area code number but i get a response telling me I need to put a 1 for long distances. Not sure what to do next. Thanks in advance

@Nivekaw

Are you getting the message that long distance charged may apply? If so this is a courtesy message from telus and if you stay on the line after the message ends it will still connect as you will never incur any overages, extra billing or fees from public mobile.

@BKNS27 I am trying to figure out why data setting should be enabled here. What am I missing?

@Nivekaw  - If you are on a Canada-wide unlimited calling plan, and adding a '1' does not help you complete the call within Canada to another Canada number, try:

  • restarting your phone
  • toggle into and out of airplane mode
  • remove, then reinsert your SIM card. Reboot
  • perform a reset of your network settings.

@Nivekaw

Maybe check to see if your Data setting is enabled.

That should have worked. Can you tell us what plan you have right now? There were “provincial plans” in the past that would prevent you from calling without an addon. Or, if you're on a plan with limited minutes, check to make sure you still have available minutes.
