LTE?

Not a big deal at all, but just wondering why my phone is only showing/using 4G, but not LTE when data is on? Since PM uses the Telus network, and I used to get LTE when I was on Telus on the same phone.

@Ottawatech I suspect that @holhm22 probably resolved this about 8.5 months ago, around the time of the last activity on this thread.  Just sayin'.

@holhm22 you've said it yourself.  Your phone shows H+ when on HSPA+ and LTE when on 4G LTE.  You're already on 4G when it's showing you LTE.

If it says 4g it means it is LTE. To make sure, download the app LTE discovery and see if you are indeed connected to a LTE signal.

Let me know.

Any ideas how to get it using LTE? It's still only using 4G all the time

I use a OnePlus One, and when I was still on Wind, it showed H+ when it was using HSPA+, never 4G.

Your phone was wrong then. Some manufacturers (or carriers?) were sometimes showing 4G for HSPA+. But now, it really shouldn't do that. 4G=LTE.

This is incorrect. Android has different symbols in the status bar for LTE and 4G. My international Note 4 was able to show both 4G and LTE in the status bar. LTE showing when the connection was at its peak.

@OP what phone are you using?

And just to be super clear

There are different types of LTE as well

LTE Advanced is NOT the same thing as LTE

Even though phone shows same icons

eg the Apple iPhone 6S has a 300 Mbps compared to the iPhone SE which caps out at 150 Mbps

Heck even the Blackberry Priv has 450 Mbps (take that Apple!) as does the Galaxy S7

@pmobile the terms LTE & 4G are used (incorrectly) interchangeably

Same issue with 3G & 3.5G standerds

Lots of issues in how telecom industry advertises

Ah I see, guess it's just the different naming with different networks. Don't remember exactly how fast LTE was on Telus since I only used it for a week long time ago. But my PM speeds are definitely faster than Wind, so it is LTE then

4G = LTE on Android.

Sorry just to clarify, I mean interchangeably like you'll be on LTE but some SIMs or Phones show 4G instead but still mean LTE.

I could be wrong but aren't 4G and LTE used interchangeably?  I know you mentioned that you're using the same phone so it is kind of strange but are you able to confirm you're getting LTE speeds or not?

My phone doesn't even have a 4G option ... LTE, 3G or 2G. If your phone is setup to LTE maybe the sat tower only has 4G. Have you tried rebooting the phone?

Maybe you stepped out of range of some satelites? does it happen everywhere?

If you have an Android device you can switch to LTE in your settings menu. Maybe others can contribute instructions for the fruit phones (blackberry, apple)?

Apart from the cellular network icon at the top right of your screen, you can confirm which network you're connected to by navigating to your device's' Settings' menu:
Settings>System>About Phone>Status>Sim Status and under 'Cellular Network Type' you should see 'LTE, but if you don't follow these instructions:

Navigate to Settings>Wireless & Networks >(More)>Cellular Networks>Preferred Network Type and select 'LTE'.

If your phone doesn't switch to LTE right away - indicated by 'LTE' above the vertical cellular signal bars icon at the top right of your screen- reboot your device and you should be good.

If 'LTE' was already selected as your 'Preferred Network Type' but you weren't connected to the LTE network, try selecting '3G', exit the settings menu, go back into the settings menu and select LTE' . If you don't see a switch right away to the 'LTE' network try rebooting your device.

Hope this helps...
