If I switch to a Public Mobile data plan, can I keep my existing phone number if I only have a prepaid talk and text account with my current service provider?

While it is true that most Canadian phone numbers can be transferred to Public Mobile, not all can be.  As for a definititive answer to your quetsion, nobody here can answer the question accuratelly without first knowing which city the phone number is assigned to.  Only phone numbers from cities that Public Mobile also has its own phone numbers for can be ported to Public Mobile.

@3Margaret  yes you  can. Just download the public mobile app, once you choose a plan and purchase it will ask later if you want to transfer a number. Just ensure to keep that account open, once you port it will automatically close the other account.
