@blevy That is one option yes. You could also use various apps to send messages while connected to wifi. PM offers no roaming outside of the US and Canada so you will have no connection on your Public Mobile SIM while in the UK.

To be clear, you will not have any Public Mobile service if you're outside of the US and Canada. If you are just sending or receiving texts while in Canada then you're fine.

All SMS if free in/out - domestic and international so you do not need add-on for texting to UK - AND texting from UK to Canada will depend on UK provider. You will not pay anything to receive SMS from anywhere.

ONLY calls out have add-on.
