Is Asus_X00TD(Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1) compatible with public mobile?

Hi,

I have been using Public mobile for a while. It was working well for me until March 16, 2021 network changes. I can use the text feature, and my mobile data, but can't make a phone call. I am not sure if I am not able to make phone calls because my phone is not compatible or voice call is still an issue due to network changes of March 16. Thank you.

I third that position. Fongo uses 0.5mb/min when using mobile data so even the $15 plan would allow for 250mb=500min of calling. Interesting though you are only the third pm customer to report that you were affected by the changes last March. With US providers decommissioning the 3G network this year which will affect pm's US roaming options we can only hope that pm will introduce voLTE calling much sooner than later.

i also like that hybrid option. the next time you are in an area to make a phone call just make sure your call forwarding settings are set for when unreachable and when unanswered.

Yes, if you are staying with PM, you might want to setup a free VoIP app like TextNow or Fongo.  Then you can call forward when unreachable to your VoIP number as suggested by @gpixel

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm in Manitoba. Is the only option to switch?

You might want to consider move to Koodo or Telus where you can use VoLTE on their network

I like your third suggestion. However, my understanding is that I need to be able to make a phone call to be able to set up call forwarding. Is there any workaround instead of going to another town to set up call forwarding? Thank you.

@lightbulb

the only options are

  • to switch to the bell(virgin, lucky mobile) or Rogers family
  • buy a cellphone booster from Amazon with band 2(1900mhz) & band 5(850mhz) - this is the band that Manitoba Winnipeg customers aren't able to use because Telus doesn't have rights to this frequency...
  • another workaround is to use a free VoIP app(textnow or fongo) that works on wifi or mobile internet and forward your public mobile number to the VoIP app while you are at home or in a low reception area

Voice calls only work at Public Mobile on the HSPA network. Are you in Manitoba?
